Indeed. I have a 8400 C0 on my htpc. It can do 4.0ghz 24/7 stable with 1.39v, on air.
On a descent E0 though u can try for 4.2ghz @ that volts.

Wow I just played Day of Defeat: Source for about 2 hours straight, with 1.36v and 4.5ghz on my E8400 but OMG it's one hothead... 50 idle, never goes below it, and after a minute of Orthos I get both cores @ 67c... me thinks the temp sensors are broken ;)
Contact is perfect, my other E8400 never goes above 49 on both cores... so probably borked sensors
oh dont get me wrong i have a CO stepping E8400 i can run stable at 4.0ghz just fine.. it just takes a good effort to get it there and with 1.49v in bios giving me 1.37v actual. the EO stepping is just a better chip.
garrett. ive had 3 different CO E8400's the first 2 were like that very high temps. this one here at 4.0ghz will run around 38c at idle.. so there is something to the way they are makeing these chips/batches??????

My E8500 Q827A366 VID1.25v pack date 8/07/08 needs 1.49v @ 4.48GHz; 1.506v @ 4.51GHz. It is an E0. Bought off Newegg. Complete piece of crap. Got an E8600 off eBay Q822A430, VID1.215v, needs 1.344v @ 4.52GHz, but runs EXTREMELY HOT! That E8500 @ 1.505v Orthos Small FFTs only gets up to 65'c highest, while the E8600 shot up to 79'c!!! Reseated over 10 times. It's the chip. Damn I never had any luck with good chips.
@Luckysevn
my last E8400 had taht problem with the high temps no matter what cooler i had on it... i got with intel and they RMA'd me a new chip. i have one of the latest/newest CO E8400 chips. and it is cool at all times now.it will barely hit 60c under intel burn test. at idle in the mid 30's.... it might be worth you time to talk with intel and tell them your have nproblems with the temps being so high,,,
Just got my new E0 E8400 in and it looks like i finally found the golden chip i think:

Comming from a old C0 which could not do more than 4 ghz i am amazed by which chip and how little voltage it needs. I know that so short prime shows nothing, but atm it is still priming: 15 min now.
Will post later if it is totally stable and also use intelburntest.

oh im sorry i didnt know what you were saying...i wish i could give air temps but the chip came out of the box and went straight to water...i guess its spoiled...:rofl: the thing never seen air cooling good thing because i only have the stock heat sink...but if you look above i posted some screen shots for proof
room temp at the moment is around 78F and is always degree or two with in that temp....ok well my water cooling set up consists of the following.....swiftech apogee GTZ water block...danger den blck ice extreme 2x120mm radiator...2 120mm 110 cfm fans...swiftech MCP655 water pump...XSpc clear in bay reservoir...hard core home depot 1/2 inch clear tubing...automotive grade hose clamps...distilled water and petra tech nuke water additive to kill any thing that might grow in my water
A lot of people get a 22c idle when they use real temp....but i didnt really check my thermometer when i told you 78c i guessed and right now my feet are a little chilly so it could be more 76F room temp my windows are open here in florida....but really who gives a crap about 3 degrees if your already running low temps...and the killer radiator comment was a joke any way...i dont know why your trying so hard to debunk my temps....if you dont like my screen shots i posted above...then take it up with the software writers who made Real Temp
If that a golden chip then I must have a golden chip also. My C0 does 4.0Ghz at 1.28V actual. I havent tried lower vcore yet. So I'm not sure of what it is capable of.

And Im using an old GA-965P-DS3 board with BIOS that only UNOFFICIALLY even support worldale. With a GOOD board with good bios tweeking options I bet I could go a good bit higher. ohh yea i have this thing running on a passive ninja!!! Only uses case flow for cooling. No fan on the cooler at all.
It primed alnight stable at 1.320 v-core at 4.360 mhz and also passed intelburntest (i run iwthout loadline calibration, so that is way idle voltage is higher)

So happy atm with this chip. Burn damn intelburn really push your chip. the temp gets maks 55 degress at priming. Intelburn test gets it to 67 degress.
sorry if this info is posted already, but how can I tell from the box what stepping a chip is. I'm picking one up from microcenter and I want to call in and have a sales rep tell me the serial off the box. What serials am I looking for?
