high, low it doesnt matter.
direct sun shots wont damage your sensor 99.99999% of the time.
i have seen, as you probably have too, shots where people claim the sun damaged the sensor, and i could believe it, but i dont believe that the sensor was ok before that.
i think the sensors where weak or damaged prior to that and the extremely bright light just pushed the damaged over the edge and made it really show thru.
it was said in a thread last night that if it hurts your eyes, it can hurt your sensor.
i disagree with that whole heartedly, the sensor isnt your eyes, not even remotely close, but i do agree that protecting your eyes comes first so dont stare at the sun for minutes thru the lens to get the shot.
i do agree that longer exposures could damage it, but i find that suspect....
but agree it COULD happen, but the chances are slim.
these are only my opinions and i am not trying to make you believe one thing or the other. there are A LOT of discussions about this and a lot of respected professions have chimed in saying it wont hurt the camera.
there are a few though who say it will.
again, in the end... if it hurts your eyes, dont do it.
if you do live view shots... this i can see hurting the sensor since its exposed for many many seconds, up to minutes at a time waiting for the right shot.
but if you are using TTL shots, then dont worry since the sensor is covered and not exposed even the slightest bit... but your eye ball isnt.
