Thanks FLanK3r, I think I figured out what this chip likes, very cold water on it's head and a fire under i't bottom.

theoldtimer, it was nice .. another reason push me in wc world :) what block?
Thanks Tomasis, it's a Swiftech apogee GTZ.:)
that right there is sweetness oldtimer.........good work!
Thanks Titan7171. Yeah, I built a Vfire under it.;). Let's just say it was enough vcore to get the job done as it wouldn't do it with any less and being that it completed SPi several times I guess it didn't need any more.:D
I think the hardware makes a difference but after a certain point you need to find a way to get the CPU colder to improve the over clock.:yepp:
I'm still using the same 965-C3 that I have had.

The coldness part I've never had trouble with, but I wonder if I'd be able to get a bit more by using a more current mobo than this old M3A79-T Deluxe?
Maybe this mobo holds me back a bit, I mean don't get me wrong this CPU is really good Nd the mobo has been great but I alwYs wonder if a crosshairs 3 or MSI gd-70 would get me. Bit more?
Now, now it's just a sweet little Dragon. :D
I own and have tested all the ones you have listed and more but for me (all I have to offer is my own personel opinion) the Crosshair III has proven to be the better one. The Corsair GT 2000MHz cl8 is the best memory I own. I don't know if other brands or speeds would over clock better but these work very well for me. So to answer your question IMHO yes this combination (Crosshair III MB, Corsair GT memory listed above) in all likelyhood would give you a higher over clock and better bench scores when tested against your M3A79-T Deluxe MB. I own the M3A79-T Deluxe and have test results to compare although I don't plan to dig through all my past results to prove.
I don't know how cold you're able to get your chip during bench testing so I'm not sure what you mean by your stament "The coldness part I've never had trouble with"? Usually when I find a way to get my chip colder I can get it to run faster or at least help it become a little more stable.
well Ive had the cpu 6-9c idle and 24.5c load with prime using icewater thats how I got 4.6ghz validation and ran 3dm06 at 4.5ghz........so Im wondering if this M3A79 is holding me back just a bit......thats why Im asking and trying to figure if a newer mobo would help me get just a bit more from it.
I've tested this hardware at those load temps also and I was maxing out just about the same clocks you are. If you get your CPU load temp down around 10C You may get another 100MHz or more out of it without changing MB or memory?
Who knows maybe you can get that much more out of it using the cooling you have now by changing MB and memory but I couldn't? I had to get it colder under load.
well you got the 4.7ghz superpi......at the same temps, but different hardware I have a 0944 APMW.
Well Ill be upgrading for Thuban so I guess Ill see what comes of it.......I was just cusious though and Im already tired of messing with the same hardware......I think my next upgrade will be 5850 crossfired.......then thuban/mobo/memory:up:
Just thoght Id throw this out there......BFBC2 about 1-2 hours of play............using all 4 cores:)

It wont run at 4.2ghz unless I raise the voltage to 1.58+ game will bsod......and if I leave the voltage at 1.58+ I have to click the overvoltage protection so I dropped the OC to 4.1ghz, its a hassle waiting for the OV protection everytime I start the machine up.
nice, bout same temps i get after gaming for awhile, right around 40c on the cores.
lolz does that say magicjack?
n1 !
Thanks wuttz. Yeah I been bouncing around from forum to forum lately. Mostly at the raptor pit for the last two months though competing in the Raptor Bowl and Winter Warz . Those were both a lot of fun.:D I’m here at XS about everyday at least for a little bit. I really like this place to.
Just for s*its and giggles, here's a shot of temps running Grid with my "daily driver" settings. Three laps at nurburgring, then watched the replay. Looks like it doesn't push it very hard, but I had fun doing it. First by a nose :yepp:
I plan to pick up a copy of Far Cry 2 in the next couple of days, maybe that'll give it more of a workout. I do like the idea of game stability as a bench. Ironically, in the past Grid has bsod'd on me in a longer race when pushing my C3 too hard, even after passing an hour of OCCT.
Titan, whatever are you going to use to challenge that shiny new GPU?
