Meaning when i put them in the yellow slots by themselves the board wont even post. But it sounds like it will only post if you have the green slots already filled. The post code was stuck at CF..

ok good thats new to me, used to the old FSB boards where it didn't matter.
ok it's friday and that means I get to play with it! It's acting very strange, seems stable (prime, superpi) but it randomly just freezes even in the bios. Time to mess around some more

As long as you have a D0 cpu in your mobo, you will NEVER get it stable with ANY consistancy.
The DFI UT X58-T3eH8 has a major problem with D0's and has done since the DO's were released. You may well get it Prime stable for 1 run, but as soon as you reboot or shutdown and start up again, it will be unstable.
The instability rears it's head when you get near to or at the rated speed of each divider, that is 1600mhz, 2000mhz and so on. Your only hope of getting consistant stability is to drop to the next divider down, which of course limits your clock.
It's my view that this is a mobo problem, because DFI has known about this for months and has not come up with a bios to fix it. If a new bios could fix it, they would have released one by now.

You may well have a different "batch" of mobo, from those that it does affect.
But be in no doubt, it does affect a large amount of people. All the Mods (that have the mobo) at DFI Cub are suffering from this. If you look at posts on other forums, you will see it is very widespread. When you are suffereing from it, it makes your mobo next to uselesss.
actually, i had some problems after rebooting, but it was when i just started my overclock.
later, closer i was to stability less problem i had. so finally i set my first stable 4200 level and didnt see such problems anymore. now i almost stable at 4300 1640 8-8-8-24 (1.5 h prime stables before error), need some tweaks to get further.
i have a feeling that these issues rise from some un-balance in various voltages.
but your sttaement worries mne a bit, becoz i want to assemble second system based on dfi x58 and d0 :eek:

Mines been stable when it's set right. I had it running for a few days but it was pretty well under spec'ed on the ram. Had 4Ghz though...I do agree that this board is finicky and pretty much a turd. CPU and RAM worked x10 better on MSI board and it cost half the price
it seems i catch this instability, after sevearl random reboots i run linpack and get bsod after a few seconds.
although i passed 20 runs in linpack before with same settings
Thats weird, have had that happen to me with other builds. Figure it must be a bios bug, what bios you using? I used the newest Beta and thats never happened.

Being able to run Linpack/Linx clear on one boot, but on re-boot it fails, is typical of what is happening with this mobo and Do's. Prime runing clear on one boot but failing on the next is also typical, as is Hyperpi.
RTL's changing from one boot to another is typical as well.
The people at DFI seem to think it only affects Elpida based ram, i have to firmly dissagree with that view. My OCZ isn't Elpida based, but i still get the same problems.
One other thing i have noticed with my D0 is that VTT is in fact much higher than set in the bios. For instance, when set at 1.21v in the bios, it's actually at 1.26v but then rises even further to 1.28v when under full load.
As you can see, this is a major problem. A lot of D0's just don't need large amounts of VTT. If your's happens to be one, then of course you would be fubbered, but you may well never know why.
I noticed the raise in VVT, from 1.21v(Bios) to 1.24v/1.26v(idle/load), but the rest doesn't apply to my setup. I have never had any problem with SuperPi, HyperPi, LinX nor Prime95 after finding the stable OC. My RTL doesn't change either (as far as I have managed to follow). I'm running my RAM at 6X and it may have something to say, but if I understand you guys right, this could be related to RAM, CPU or MB/BOIS (or a combination of these). But whatever it is, it is not affecting the stability av my setup :)
Yes, I bought these at the bigging of i7-release (while RAM was crazy expensive). These has been " relatively cheap" and has been running @1266MHZ 6-7-6-22 with acceptable results while I have been waiting for price drop on Elpida-modules.
I'm considering to get 6GB Elpida, and have been looking at Dominator GT 1866MHz CL7 lately, and that's why I'm following your discussion. But after listening to you guys, I'm getting cold feet about changing RAM.
Well i figured out how to get 20x multi. Need to leave turbo enabled but turn of EIST. If I turn off turbo it is unstable at 20x multi, completely backwards.
Anyways, this allows me to run 20x200 and 1600mhz ram so I can see if I can even get it to run at spec...
So I tried 1600mhz 1.66v 8-8-8-24-2n trfc 68, trrd 6, still fails 32m superpi sometimes right when i hit the button sometimes a little further in.
And also I tried ram in yellow and green slot and it worked, so thanks for telling me it will only work when greens occupied too :)
