This could also account for the greater FPS on x2 over Crossfired single cards. Have they finally got it right, after x800, x850, x1900, x1950, 2900, and 3800?

Well shoot! Seems they fixed it. This makes me cry, out of sadness, and happyness. Now if I get my new monitor I won't be able to afford an X2! If I don't get my new monitor, I won't be able to play my PS3 games without stretching.
Decisions decisions. I'd get both, but then I'd be broke for a while T.T
Edit: Now we just need to find out if it takes a preformance hit on the P35 or not. Or at least I do =P
great! i thought it was just a driver issue, guess not? 3870X2 was tested with the same drivers, right? :o
also, so if it's truely a hardware-based issue, what about 4870 CF? is the interconnect that different that those cards will show symptoms like the 3870X2 did that sampsa tested?
Sampsa, are you able to do the exact same comparison between 4870X2 and 4870 CF? that would mean a lot.
This is fantastic news, thank you Sampsa!
I can't wait for this card to be released, especially after abandoning the 3870x2. I might get two if CF scales/plays nice in games! :)
oh, wonderful news:clap:
now the nvidiots've got one reason less to moan about atis high-end cards
... oh, wait, its 2 gpus, you cannot compare that with gt200 *buhuhuu*:welcome:
OMFG. This is amazing news! Nvidia is going to have to drop the GTX280 down to like $400 or something if they want to have a chance against this. Even then I think most enthusiasts will be buying this card. I cynically assumed that AMD wasn't going to do anything about the problem because most review sites don't even mention it. I wonder what Nvidia is going to do about this. Until/unless they follow suit RIP SLI.
Wonderful! Thanks for that Sampsa.:D
Now also confrmation please that this card runs all games superbly and not only the ones that are optimized for crossfire. :)
@Sampsa: what motherboard are you using? does the 4870X2 have any problems with the X48? if i could recall, some 3870X2 won't boot on an X48 board.
So forget about gtx280 killer.. how about SLI killer? Also some 4870 CF users are reporting that they do not noticed microstutter with their current config in the scenarios they have tested.Quote:

I am not saying this because I am an ATI hater, quite the opposite. I am saying this so we can shut up anyone not convinced (I am thinking of the color green right now... )
:shoot:
just in I believe, from Tom's hardware Taiwan; page already translated and displayed at Vrzone:

confidential lol
Wow...this makes me want one even more.
Looks like TWIMTBP needs an ATi logo.
Well, it looks like I know what my next card will be as well.
One question though, does anyone know/think if this card will "need" PCI-Express 2.0? I'm still using a AB9 QuadGT, p965 chipset.
Thats a tough one, someone more knowledgable would have to answer. I would think with the power this thing draws, you will.
Yes, this will be my next test (tomorrow), see if 4870 CF is still affected by microstuttering. I would assume this is the case since R700 features next generation GPU interconnect.
I just got home from beach soccer tournament and need to relax this evening in sauna with couple of beers :p:
I'll make a better report about this issue during the weekend since I'm preparing my R700 preview to be published.
how much ram, Sampsa? The thing everyone might want to know...
So? pics said 480 shaders too. But Sampsa is more than trustworthy...he just doesn't care.
Chill he's under NDA he can't say anything specific.
As for the pictures so close to release it's easy to believe there real since there are going to be 1gb gddr5 hd4870's.
Besides what game needs more then 1gb of graphics memory now?
Uh oh, sounds nice, and I was just going to order my pc with a 4870 on monday. Too many choices :)
good thing someone does research, but dont try to compare the old x2 with the new x2 (same setting at same resolution) cause the new RV770 just beats the crap out of the old RV670.
I might suggest you try to find settings for the 4870 X2 that push them into the 30-40fps region, thats where microstuttering is most notable.
