I decided against the 30 gb ssd, I haven't the ching for 2 for a raid, and the battery savings for my laptop is only 7% from what I read, so I can't justify it like that if it didn't speed up my OS at home tons...thanks for this thread, it's nice to see what what's out there.
I'm waiting on a WD Black 640, I took the chance hoping it's as fast the Cavier, I'll post results if I can figure out how to install sata on my Gigabyte 780 board.

4 x WD1500ADFD Raptors on Adaptec 5405 controller in RAID 0 (512MB stripe and default 4k clusters) supported by one 1TB Seagate on a system configured for multi boot gaming not benching! maybe soon I'll configure for benching then we'll see what these babies are capable of :)

No, can't boot from it but it is automatically loaded on boot so that in all other ways it looks like a hard drive to the system. You can put any apps on it, just not the OS. Much like iodrive right now until their firmware update (but faster than iodrive ;) ).
quite a lot faster actually, was thinking of trying to replicate the functionality of a TMS ramsan with a 5400 chipset board and about 48GB of FBDimm ram and misc other stuff
