I will try removing one of the DIMMs, but I doubt it is my RAM as I know several people who are running my DIMMs without any problems on this board. The problem is that I'm driving blind....I see no video output! perhaps its the video card, so tomorrow I will pick up a cheap card and see if I can see something out of the card.

if not, I will return the board for another one.

So that HDtach screenshot of yours is from a raid setup, cuz 214Mb/s burstspeed seems a bit much for plain single SATA?

what is the maximum frequency for the north bridge core on a P5B deluxe mobo??? What voltage does northbridge need at what Mhz, suppose I use a E6400 and I clock it to 3.2Ghz using a FSB of 457 and a multi of 7, then the NBCC would amount to 522Mhz. So is a voltage increase necessary for NB? Is it safe to have it running at 522Mhz, cuz its twice the default value?

cpu cables??? you mean the CPU fan? yes.

yeah...done all that...trust me. I've built and OC'd 3 PCs so far, and no problems until this one! I've never spent more than $110 on a mobo, and now I go for the "luxury" item super duper P5B deluxe Wifi-AP that everyone raves about, and nothing but trouble :(

I know at the end it will probably be something stupid I did or some incompatibility issue with my hardware, but man, this is frustrating~!

No RAID, just a single Maxtor 300GB 16MB cache SATA II drive.

The burst speed was only around 110MB/s until I moved the jumper on the rear of the drive to enable SATA 3Gb mode, then it jumped to 214MB/s

It sounds like a RAM issue to me. I know you said previously that you know of people running the same RAM in the P5B-D, but a lot depends on what BIOS revision they were running. It is possible your board has an early BIOS without many of the RAM fixes.

Is it possible for you to borrow some generic DDR2 RAM to test with?

What RAM are you using? Can you get ahold of any other DDR2 RAM and give it a try? My P5B-D will not boot at all with my OCZ Gold till I got ahold of some other RAM that it will boot with and update the BIOS.

I went to Best buy at lunch and bought one DIMM of PC4200 DDR2 Kingston, and I will try that....I also bought a cheap generic PCIe nvidia card, just to make sure it's not the video card. I;ll try all of this once I get home.

ps- check out the 1st review on newegg....some guy used it with this mobo no problems at all....:(

The P5B Deluxe (none WiFi) and Wifi version too wont boot up with G.SKILL F2-8000PHU2-2GBHZ i tested it with three different motherboars and none of them worked with G.SKILL F2-8000PHU2-2GBHZ on 0614 bios. But on default bios which came with board everything was ok. Of course you can change voltage to 2.3 useing different memory to do it and it will boot up but it will bee veary hard to do some oc because of instability. So seems like the 0614 bios has some problems with G.SKILL F2-8000PHU2-2GBHZ. The default bios was 0405 i guess actually i dont remember :D

well...right now I can't do anything with BIOS...I can't update, I cant see what's there, I cant do anything until I see something on the screen.

I will try this kingston ram, and if it doesn't work, I will send this thing back :(

Well I'm just glad it helps someone.

I know that many people will immediately change there RAM voltage to a manually set value but I like to mess around and see what everything does and I noticed this issue. This is a problem with the board though as setting it to auto should cause it to select a value that actually works even if that value is higher then needed.

"ssabripo" it really sounds like a RAM issue to me. Not only do you have to take those reviews people post with a grain of salt but also not all RAM is equal. Some people with corsair RAM are getting immediate boot up with this board and others are not. Your RAM might be slightly different voltage or something. Or your RAM could just be bad??? A video card really doesn't seem like it would be the problem. I will give you the same advise that I gave when I had RAM issue. Go to best buy and buy some generic kingston RAM with a 1.8v rating. After you use it and get the board to boot bring it back and get your money back. Worst case you'll get a definitive answer of if it is the RAM or not instead of sitting there and tearing your hair out. Oh and also let me point out that my RAM that was rated at 2.1v also did not boot on this board with the shipping BIOS 302 (I think???). Your RAM is 2.2v and I seriously doubt it will boot on this board until you update to a different BIOS or change the RAM voltage.

ok..I'm really thumped now! :(

I got some Kingston PC4200 ddr2 ram, and new video card, and installed them.....same thing! did not work.

However, I kept rebooting and rebooting like 30 times, and about time # 14 I actually got a screen!! but it said somethinng like American megatrends or something, and then RAM ok, and then "OVerclock failed".........which makes me believe this board was NOT new :mad:

I did not have the floppy drives connected, so I rebooted and never could get back to that screen.....and now, when I put the floppy drive on, it had one long beep, 2 short beeps, and this repeated over and over....and when I press reset, it would go back to 1 long beep, 2 short beeps. :confused:

anyways, I tried it over and over for about an hour, and could not get to this again..........and tried my own PC6400 and video card, and combinations thereof (my video card with kingston RAM, viceversa, etc), and nothing.....same old thing. :mad:

I think this is a bad board guys....what do you think?

The board should have told you that your OC failed because it is reading a newly inserted CPU which is not suprising since you've tried to start the machine many times now. SO it should have told you to press F1 or F2 to either enter BIOS and change settings or load defaults and contine startup. What voltage rating is the kingston RAM? Or just tell me actual product number of the RAM.

EDIT: nevermind all Kingston RAM should be 1.8v. It's strange that you got it to boot once but not any other times. I think go over it once more and make sure everything is ok, disconnect anything that is nto needed (floppy, ide-drives, etc) and try to see if it will boot again. If not then I'd have to say it is a bad board.

yup...just did that in between these posts....disconnected everything, restarted from scratch....NOTHING...same CRAP!!!:mad:

I'm gonna RMA and get a new board and see if my luck changes.:(

Have you try resetting the BIOS. Remember to remove the battery before you do the jumper reset.

well...I just got off with ZZF, and they said I'm pretty much S.O.L....the item is non-refundable...they will only replace or repair. :mad:

Ok my problem is i cant get my memory to OC AT ALL!! Im not talking 100Mhz or anything. It max's out at 420 at 4 4 4 12 no matter the volts. I want to run it at 4:5 with my cpu. But i cant do it, so i tried to up the timmings to 5 5 5 15, still nothing. Then even tried it at 5 5 5 15 and 2.45 Vdimm(max with out mods) and still windows is not stabe. Whats wring here, the mem is fien at stock 400Mhz 4 4 4 12, but there are XMS2 EPP they should overclock. Is there some setting im missing here? Thanks

Ok guys....some progress:

after taking everything apart for the 11tybillionth time, and putting it back together, I finally got the bootup! I reverted back to my own Memory (Crucial ballistix) and it works, albeit intermidently. I also put my old video card back on there, and it also dispalys something.

So, I was happy for a little bit....I was able to set the RAID configuration, and created the RAID1 volumes. However, once I wanted to start the windows install, the CD-rom would not open...no power nothing. I unplugged the IDE cable to make sure all was proper, and with the cable disconnected, the CD-ROM responds (opens, closes, etc), but with the cable connected, it goes dead.

I tried different cables to make that wasn't it, and still nothing. :mad:

When I power down the PC, 2/3 of the time it goes back to the Bios error beeps, and 1/3 of the time it boots up, but still, nothing on IDE.

it HAS to be the motherboard right? I mean, if it was a PSU problem or something, what would the symptoms be?

Read the spec on your RAM and on next bootup (wait for evrything to cool down). Go into BIOS and immediately set the correct RAM voltage (If the Crucial is 1.8, try giving it 1.85 or 1.9) and then reboot before you go any further. My OCZ will boot on the P5B when cold but would freeze during window install till I set the correct voltage in BIOS. Then Once Window is installed, you can update BIOS.

Krebudi - that's where my Corsair 6400 C5 maxes out too...You should be able to do better than me though, anything above 422 is out.

I can Memtest all day at that speed though, just dual-PI isn't stable.

You can try upping vcore I suppose...my temps get too scary and 1.5 volts didn't make a difference for me.

SSabripo - make sure JMicron is enabled in BIOS and set to IDE...for Windows just put your CD-ROM on it. If you don't see the JMicron boot screen with the annoying "Press any key to continue" message then it's not working.

I had the same problem with my Samsung RAM on the P5B-D, however after I disabled 'Static Read' in the BIOS my Dual Super-PI issues vanished :)

Yea i can mem test all day too. But you have the sticks that are made for 5 5 5 15 at 400Mhz, if mine are made for 4 4 4 12 at 400Mhz they should do great at say 480Mhz 5 5 5 15 and 2.45 volts. But nope.
