I've just put my new system together and have the following problem: after I power it up the fans start spinning and the LEDs light up for a second, then shut down again. One or two seconds later, the system seems to actually start, but the monitor doesn't get a signal ...

Hardware is:
Conroe 6400
Gigabyte DS3
2GB Team DDR2-667 3-3-3
Point of View GF7900GT

I've switched out the 7900GT and still have the same problem, everything but the graphics card, monitor and keyboard is unplugged.

Has anybody else had that problem before (and knows some extraordinarily simple solution to it that I just haven't found? ) or is my DS3 DOA?

Is it beeping ? like can u get into bios at all?
maybe is ur memory that is not getting enought volts Ds3 stock dimm volts is 1,8 while lots of memory need 2.1,
Im sure is ur memory. is not ur vga card

Why my PATA-devices are reconised as SCSI, and my PATA-hard drive isn't visible/accesible in Windows (In bios and Device Manager you can see that)?

Ok, now i handled the problem, and now I have other question; Why I can't hear any bass on azelia chip? I use typical headphones, so its set for output. Itäs like listening music on cheap headphones.

Pci-e freq is 100Mhz. Default settings don't work.

These P965 mobos are really :banana::banana::banana::banana:ty - I have the same problem with GF7900GT and Gigabyte DQ6 and Asus P5B DLX - x1 link width. This might be a P965 bug or something.

I know I am a bit late into this discussion but I am having serious problems with the DS3... My system powers on for about 2 seconds, then powers off, then keeps repeating this cycle until I pull the cord... The only thing that moves inside the case are the system fans (not the CPU fan), and the LED works but no signal to the monitor...

The only way I can stop it from turning on and off is if I disconnect the 4-pin power supply to the CPU, but then it ain't going to post, but at least the power stays on constant... By the way, I have tested the PSU seperately and it works without a problem...

I tried everything from resetting the CMOS, taking the battery out, swapping the memory modules around, disconnected everything to connect it again but finally gave up and decided RMA the board.. I like the board, so decided to ask for a replacement, but now I am wondering if I am going to land myself in the same situation.. Does anyone have any suggestions in case they just send back the same board?

From what I have read, I am guessing my problem is down to the fact that my board has an older bios or I am using dodgy memory... If the retailer just sends my old board back without updating the bios, what is my best solution?

The system:

CPU: E6600
GPU: EVGA 7600GT
MEMORY: OCZ 2 x @ 1GB 1.8V DDR2 667MHz

I never thought to look at this when I had my DS3 - I just bought a P5B D that'll be here tomorrow. Is this a widespread problem? Is it a REAL problem (not a bad reading from the mobo)?

Def ur memory is the problem , if u can get some Corsair memory that ill be great , thats the only memory that i havent see reporting problems with DS3
some how i hate this board , im getting a P5B deluxe

No, it is NOT definately a memory problem. I and others here and on other message forums, have had this problem and it has NOT always been the memory. I was using the Corsair DDR2-667 memory and it still did it. I had to take my PC Pwer and Cooling 1KW out of the system and use another (any other, tried 4 different ones and they all worked) one to get it to post. I tried cheap, generic DDR2-533 ram, different video cards, nothing worked except swapping psu's out. I know, it makes no sense. I tried it with the board on a workbench, nothing.
I have since RMA's the 1KW to PC Powering and Cooling, where they tested it and said there was nothing wrong with it. I'm starting to wonder about this board myself, wondering if many of these "power on for 2 seconds then off" problems aren't somehow psu-related and not always "def" a memory problem.

Try a different power supply.

QUESTION:

I can't remember from when I had my DS3, but do these boards still do the cold-boot power-on > shutoff > power on for good thing? Or did a BIOS flash fix that? Reason I ask is I'm building a DS3/E6300 system for my Dad and he's gonna freak if he sees that crap. I'm replacing an old system that was flaky and the last thing I want him to see is the initial power on, shutdown, power on thing.

Windows 2003 Server

Don't know if this has been posted already, but it would be good for the FAQ:

If you're using Windows 2003 Server, the drivers for the Gigabit lan are ZIPPED!

That means Windows will NOT find them until you unzip, and the automatic install just installs the XP drivers. This was KIND of a big issue for me...

It only does that to me when fails to overclock u know bad settings on bios, but if i go back to stock speed it doesnt.
now question for u is taht the max u can hit with the p5b 3.2?

P5B? Ya mean P5W? I get my P5B tomorrow - I'll let you know.

3.2GHz is the max my chip can go without going nuts on VCore. It can do 3.3GHz @ 1.55V stable... not worth it for 100MHz.

yes meant P5W typo :), me too i have to go insane on Vcore on mine its running at 3.3 stable at 1,55V idles at 44 all the time overload at 47-48
I dont know if is my chip that it got to hes max or my Mobo , was hoping to hit 3.6 at least with my E6600 no luck , max fsb is 368

It's not your mobo. It's your chip, IMO. Guys are hitting much higher FSB's with E6600's on our same mobos doing everything we're doing on AIR cooling with different week chips. I guarantee you if I had a week 26 or 27 chip I could do better than 3.2GHz @ 4.5V. How much better? That's the luck of the draw I guess.

I'm going to be trying some new ram later this week. (Geil DDR2 800)

I think my PQI Turbo DDR2 667 is holding me back.

BTW, Does anyone else get messed up readings from from CPU-Z & Memset, just randomly. & No its dual Prime stable at this clock so I don't know WTF!

If it's a retail box - look at your box's sticker. It'll say L6XX.... The "XX" is the week #.

If it's OEM, you'll have to take all your crap apart n look on the CPU.

EasyTune 5 was working fine untill i rebooted and now it won't work on F4Final. I tried to reboot/reinstall many times but it still won't work. Any advice?

I had exactly the same problem with my DS3. Even Gigabyte TS concluded that I had a corrupted bios. I had it packed up and ready to RMA when I decided to give it one more try. These are the steps I used to revive my DS3 and what I think is happening:

1) Remove 24-pin power lead from mobo

2) Remove battery

3) Wait 1/2 hour

4) Reinstall battery

5) Re-attach 24-pin power lead

6) Short power pins (press pwr button)

7) If mobo continues to power-on and immediately shut down, short power jumpers (hold power button) for several seconds.

When I did this, my mobo beeped and posted.

I believe that the Gigabyte self-test post routine (failed OC recovery) can get stuck and recycle continuously. By shorting the power pins for more than 4 seconds you can break the cycle and it will reset to bios defaults. This may or may not work for you but it did work for me and I'm very happy with my DS3 now.
