That is pretty ghey about the voltages...I was wondering about that when I was reading my manual. And CPU-Z or anything else won't tell you?
You did a fresh XP install right? (Just asking)

ya, no doubt, the bios sucks - especially coming from a DFI ultra-d
QUOTE=Lestat]ok wth.... you cant set the ram divider below 1:1 ????? wth ?
im up to 375 FSB 1:1 default/auto on everything. oops cpu is 1.3v cuz i wanted to keep the voltage on the cpu up a little more than everything else so if it puked out i knew that the cpu wasnt the issue.
I just downloaded PC Wizard 2006 from the CPU-Z site and I think it's showing me VDIMM and VCore (different mobo). So, does the BIOS at least show you where your starting voltages are? I mean how the heck are you supposed to know where you're sitting at before you start upping voltages?
Well Lestat, 375 ain't too awful bad with bunk RAM I guess. I was hoping you had all the right "hardware" to get the job done. Hahaha! :)
im at 400 auto everything cept the cpu and again i am keeping that slightly higher.
having some troubles formatting the 2nd half of my raid..... it doesnt want to do it...
upping the gmch and mch and fsb voltages doesnt help.
edit.... ok its went past now... hhmm
seems like i can do 400 with auto everything.... i did jump up to 410 which is 820 on the ram which is too much the ram is puking out.
looks like i better get that gskill hz stuff. and quick...
i really dont see why they removed the ram dividers below 1:1 thats rubbish...
really gunna kill alot of peoples clocks like me who dont have insane ram.
think future bios revisions will let u set ram below 1:1?
i have gskill ddr667 ram also and i dont know how high they go yet. just got them from a trade with no baord to test them on.

Lestat, REALLY dumb question here...but what's gmch and mch?
Also, are you on the F3 BIOS?
**subscribes for interest**
GMCH == (integrated) Graphics Memory Controller Hub == NB + video
MCH = Memory Controller Hub = NB
giga-byte's website shows a 4th p965 board now, a -S3 (no D). From the comparison sheet the only change is a different lan chip, still gigabit though. Its probably a typo
edit: OOOOHHHH, theres another difference... it uses all traditional capacitors, not the fancy solid ones on the -DS3. Damn... I'd love to know if the solid caps make a difference. I hope they do. It's rare you get such an easy basis to make a comparison. The boards are spot-on identical except for the caps.
The solid capacitors sound interesting. I wonder how much of a difference they really make? Has anyone ever worn out a capacitor (exacerbated by overclocking) on a motherboard? Do higher voltages actually affect the lifespan of these things?Quote:

this is gaming stable, but not dual prime havent tried 32m pi yet. I play Prey, CSS just fine
i can POSt as high as 4.2Ghz then it crashed when loading windows
letest, u have E6400 ES??
I got this board tuesday, it died within like 30 seconds.
Im getting another today, so whats the best bios?
Will be using 6600es.
dos floppy the only way to get the ds3 bios updated? it craps out in windows and I don't have a floppy drive (and would like to stay away from making a dos cdrom) there a win util for this board bios update?

Well this board was my choice, but seeing you cannot set mem lower than 1:1 is a shame. I planned to get a E6400 and get the highest FSB possible (485x8 :D). But no way I'm going to buy DDRII1000... it costs around 400€.
I did the maths, and the average gain from 2MB to 4MB is a mere 3,5%, and the highest is a 10%. Taken from anandtech:
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...spx?i=2795&p=4
So, with a 100€ less CPU you can get around 3.8-3.9ghz, which is around a 6-8% more mhz than a E6600 400x9. So things balance, and I can use these 100€ for the RAM. Hmm choices choices, what to do? I guess I'll keep reading, as neither mobos or Conroes are still for sale in Spain.
Doesn't that Team group D9 fatbody PC2-5300 stuff go that high though. That's only like $180 for 2 GB. I don't plan on getting PC2-8000 or 8500 either.Quote:

we will see how far I can overclock it, since i have to make the memory run slower
I'm hoping for 490 x 7 with my E6300 ES. My RAM can easily do DDR2 1000 4-4-4-8, so running it 1:1 = DDR2 980 :hrhr:
My ram can overclock to DDR2 1000, so does that mean the Ram Divider won't matter for me?
If I want to overclock me E6600 to 3.6ghz.

It's not Fatbody :rolleyes:Quote:
