As we guessed, merom seems to still have FSB wall... :slap: Let's hope new chipsets can go further than 400 easily... :D
BTW nice results there :toast:

not sure but FSB wall seems about 22x for merom ES now.
i wish no FSB wall....
for FEAR, the result is like that i have no idea why.....
ran many times but ...
Hey Denny..thanks for posting these numbers :) Damn fine results as well :)
That was the most simplest and easiest review I have seen in a long while ..Good job and thank for the info but seem like Conroe will be better 4 overclockers since the merom cpu is FSB limited unless a updated bios comes along andups it to 250+..we just got to wait n see I guess
Thanks for your hard work....exciting stuff!
merom v crone ... ?
Well in some of the benchies Merom really kills Yonah! Nice work guess2098! Keep it up.
Hi. Recently subscribed here, and most of you should be able to guess why :).
This tells that Merom/Conroe is much more bandwidth starved than Yonah/Pentium D. Actually this CPU probably demands the most bandwidth out of all PC CPUs. Pentium 4's had a point where it was somewhat being starved at one point or another, but now its not true anymore.Quote:
However as FSB and bus speed increases, the Merom like the unleash monster, it gets even 60 points compare with 2.9G T7400 and 3G T2600
It's like how Pentium 4 Northwood's got decent performance increase from doubling L2 cache, but doubling caches on Pentium D's nowadays gives around half the performance increase.
It doesn't matter whether other CPUs like Athlon X2's or Core Duo's get more bandwidth/cache, it will be hard to reach close to Conroe advantage.

For those who wants to know benchmark numbers only, we don't need to see anymore. Merom is approximately 20% or faster in average to Yonah. Those who wants OC numbers, keep reading.
One question to members/mods. Where did the thread about Conroe and Half Life 2: Lost Source go?? I saw that thread and wanted to check back to be sure the 165fps number is "average" but, couldn't see it anymore.
damn this looks sexy. SO IIRC, you can just put one of these babys in place of a yonah right? I might be getting a nice laptop soon to help with school :banana::banana::banana:, and it would be sweet if it was upgradable to this.
We need a fx/Opty vs.Merom T7400 comparaison :)
What is the multiplier range for the Merom ES's?
Reminds me of the P4 2.4c's, which would usually crap out around 300 FSB in most boards, even if 299 was pefectly stable.

Excellent comparison, thanks mate. Especially liking the look of that 3dmark03 bench. 2k point difference between 3g Yonah and 2.2g Conroe is awesome, Q4 looks good too.
Yes, but now lets have all of them together in onr review:)Quote:
