So far the k8l's claim to fame is the doubling of floating point, which is matched by Conroe(both doing the same amount of work per cycle). It'd have to be clocked higher to achieve a win in fp over Conroe. That still leaves integer performance to address, which is where most of the crushing by Conroe is happening.
There is still some low hanging fruit in the way the x86 decoders work for the K8 that they could make use of, wouldn't hurt to have more L2 bandwidth either. It will supposedly also clock alot higher, but this is all rumours at this point, were gonna have to wait ~6 months before we know anything for sure....
There seems to be a lot of conflicting reports, is SiGe going to be on all 65nm processors, introduced on a revised 65nm process and standard for 45nm, or introed on 90nm and standard for 65nm?
I always thought they were going to go 90nm SiGe this year, then move to 65nm SiGe.
can anyone explain with details why sige is so good? or the benefits of it?
Its basically a way to boost the speed of a transistor much like strained silicon. It can be implemented on a current process and we'll get a boost in speeds. Quite how much of a boost is unknown, but a boost is a boost right?

Is it a 22% boost from 90nm DSL to 90nm SiGE, or from 90nm DSL to 65nm SiGe?

I guess Amd have to do something to boost their 90nm chips after all, even in the summer of next year the majority of amd chips will be 90nm, and SiGe should be enough of a push to keep them competitive. (much like the 130nm SSOI FX55 before the proper migration to SSOI on the 90nm process)
