Filling the gaps didn't get me any performance--it only worsed PWM cooling.
I'll get to lapping it sometime.
I'm still waiting for my ideal heatsink. Give me a Ninja with 2-3x fins and a proper fan bracket.

i think this should be a sticky to show everyone that Tuniq and BT are alsmot the same
I installed a BT yesterday replacing a Zalman 9500 that didn't work too well.
The first time I installed the BT the temps at idle were running at 51c on Easytune, 57c on TAT, a degree higher than the the 9500. So I pulled it back out and 'honed" it down flat using a four sided diamond hone. See this thread http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=122733
When I reinstalled it the temps dropped 8 c on TAT.
Right now with an ambient temp of 22.6 c and the E6300 oc'd to 3.4 1.3Vcore
Easytune shows 34c, TAT is 44 c with the stock fan. I'm going to try a 120 x 38 fan as soon as I get one to see what will happen. After doing this it makes me wonder about reviews like this one,http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coo...ower120_8.html that show the 9500 beating the BT and the Tuniq beating them all. I now know that the BT is 8 degrees cooler than a 9500 on my system and much quieter too. The 9500 base BTW was very flat and has a mirror finish on it compared to my BT that now has a flat base and dull finish on it. The 9500 is going back to Fry's today. Something else I tried was putting a 80MM fan drawing air on the underside/inside of the BT. This helped a little bit by a few degrees but I think I'll just get a faster 120mm.

dude it is known that zalman's 9500 is very good ONLY for single core cpu
but when u put it on top of a HOT dual core it svcks, unlike the huge Bt or Tuniq or Infinity or Ninja , they shine on hot cpus
so this review was done using a single cpu ;)
Wow awesome job Navig. I'm surpised theres isn't more attention on this thread. So if the Big Typhoon was paired with Sanyos and the ramsink mod wouldn't it effectively beat the Tuniq based on these results? or does having dual core processors make it different?

This just shows how much difference the fan can make. The stock fans that come with HSF's suck, which is why heatsink roundups typically aren't that useful. Thermaltake makes great heatsinks, but their fans suck. In a bad way.
I'd kind of like to see the Asetek Vapochill Micro Extreme set up the same way, but I doubt our hallowed reviewer wants to devote any more time or money to the project.

This is being cooled by the same TTBT, however its been lapped (which dropped a definite 2c on idle and load temps for me), topped with the Delta VWH running at about 2x1100 rpms.
My Prescott definitely ran much hotter!

Ive never seen any reviews with the Zalman beating the TT-BT, it looks like it should but it dont, and to above poster, your temps were too high after mounting your TT-BT even without it lapped, sometimes peeps cant get a good mount on it, seems you are one of them.
The TT-BT was ther king but not any longer but no shame in that cause its over 1 year old and in stock form its very quiet and the ones beating it now really are big ugly monsters.
Trust me, Tuniq Tower all the way!!! :D
Def. vote sticky for this thread. It shows that a comparison between two HSF's with stock fans installed is like comparing apples to orangutans. The different fans add too many variables.
I would like to see some industrious forumites repeat the tests with a Smithfield or even a Kentsfield to see how much difference the extra cores will really make.
So at the end of the day when using a non loud fan ( something like the same fan as the BT ) which would probably give the best temps between the Ninja Plus B , Infinity and BT
If ya look at yonder graph, you'll see the Infinity isn't on there. Between the Ninja and the BT, the Yate Loon D12-SL performed best on the BT.
Whats the technical reason why the BT performs so well despite having lesser fins and heatpipes?
also how does the CNPS 9700-NT fair against these coolers?

look at Vr zones show down betwean The Noctua NH-U12F, Scythe Infinity and Ninja.
All 3 had a Silverstonetek FM121 120mm Fan (39.5dBa, 110CFM).
