200ns approximate number - read it on fcenter.ru. If you know russian this article will be very interesting read. Haven`t seen any correct data. BTW how do you convert cycles to ns ?Quote:
But 200ns seems a bit high. Would you happen to have some links to exact number?
Very true indeed. Exnibition samples of FB-DIMMs were cooled by fan.Quote:
The reason it was delayed is that the bridge chip on the FBdimms had serious heat/power issues that prevented it from being approved by JEDEC until up to this point.
To me DDR2 seems to be the best option to both desktop and server markets - low price, decent performance, widely available - what else do you want ?
You can't, unless you know the exact frequency.
Otaking71,
But we do know the exact frequency. :)
Err... I guess. :hrhr:
What freq would the AMB run at other than the speed memctrl drives the dimms? Otherwise AMB would need a dedicated clock source.
Two things wrong in this quote:Quote:

2. It clearly says FB-DIMM access latency, not AMB access latency.
-> 2x :slapass: for me.
Anyways, 30-40 cycle FB-DIMM access time in nanoseconds:
30 (cycles) * 1 000 000 000 (ns) / 333 000 000 (1/s)
= 90 ns
(40 cycles = 120 ns)
90 - 120 ns DIMM access latency
What do you say we actually wait till we can obtain Socket F and M2 before we fight over what memory it is going to use... no Sense getting Worked over something that we have no control over
i want to know something
ddr2 and ddr3 they are pin compatible?
one guy from a memory maker (good one) told me AM2 is going to use ddr2
Ermmm....I don`t get that calculation :D
I think, I also heard this. It might have been from the boys at Xbit, not sureQuote:

Socket M will use DDR2 and is incapable of DDR3 because it is not an FBdimm archetecture. Socket F can use both DDR1/2/3/4 because FBdimms are fully buffered and are pin compatible.
Thats really where the confusion is occuring as people do not know a great deal about how FBdimms operate and thus are confusing the two sockets with each other.
For AMD to use DDR3 on desktop while using unbuffered non FBdimms it will require a platform refresh. However since Socket F is an FBdimm design it will not need such thing. This is why AMD is making Socket F as overkill as possible because they intend to use Socket F for atleast 3 years while socket M lasting maybe half that.
Absolutely not.. But I Don't believe M2 is going to be DDR2Quote:

Please carefully read what I posed....Quote:

All this disagrement :stick:
I need a reliable source, whoever points me to one gets a BREWSKI on me :toast:
Its really quite simple.. he's making this out to be far more than it should.Quote:

You can choose to believe what I say or not. I know what I have here is correct.
And I am sure your one of those people :rolleyes:Quote:

Maybe this post by Tony will shed some light.

Ok...I bet that AM2 will use DDR2 :D How much are we talking leviathan? :p: lol....Quote:
