Well its not only bh5 or utt. even tccd. So if someone has old terrible bad ram or so he could test it.

Ok, checked all my old Dothan o/c screenies, I never see there Clockgen & cpu-z open simultaneously. In fact, if I remember correctly, I've always used the method by working with Clockgen up until the system crashes :D or, if it doesn't crash, then I close Clockgen and run the bench I wanted to. If the bench completes, only then I'd open cpu-z for screenshot taking/validation purposes. So this way, I've probably never seen Clockgen & cpu-z opened simultaneously... perhaps this has saved my precious UTT/BH-5 sticks so far? :shrug:

But when I reset CMOS then default ram speed is 100 or 133 depending on the jumper position. Same is on i845 board, fsb is either 100 or 133. It simply won't work at all on these boards. Why does it work on KT266 is a mysteryQuote:

I'm confused. ALL my screenshots have both clockgen AND cpu-z running. I ony ran clockgen when increasing FSB after Saaya mentioned that runnig both meantt hat the FSB didnt actually rise but I have yet to see my ram die. I have had the system crash numerous times and rebooted but the RAM has survived. Is it just a case of luck of the draw?
Does anybody know why it sometimes takes so long when you start cpuz,i can't remember that it took so long with my XP-M.
P4C800-e DLX here with Dothan 750 at 2552 (212X12) with 4X512 old KHX 3200 BH5 running at 2,85Volts (2,5 in bios - using a +0,3 vdimm mod) and no problems so far. However I dont recall running clockgen and CPU-Z at the same time ...
I have lend my friend 4X512mb UTT in his P4P800 rig with Dothan 730 running at 200X12 = 2400. Vdimm is at 2,6. He has an P4C800-e DLX bios flashed in there and he can do restarts fine but if he powers off the system then it starts up whenever it feels like it :slapass: Lets say it starts again in 1 out of 5 power-on attempts :confused:

so what i'd like to know is of all users that have sticks killed with their
asus boards in a dothan (adapter) based system, at what settings and
in what slots on the mobo the stick that died was located.
Mayb this is rev. related on the motherboards. coz it aint bios i think.
My BH-5 have been run in the 2 dual channel slots closest to the cpu from day one (since it is the only config which allows preserving dual channel and using (unmodded) DDR Booster). Don't know the ram slot numbers but I can verify them to be 1 & 3 or 2 & 4 when I get home.
new question what version of cpu-z are you running? I have always run clockgen and cpu-z at the same time.I was using v1.31 when the ram died.
I've been running clockgen and cpuz on my P4C800E-D, CT-479, Pentium M 740 and Corsair 1 GB Valueram DDR400 in slots 1 and 3 setup since day one with no problems. Well, I blew the mosfet on the first adapter, but otherwise, MB, CPU and RAM has been (relatively) problem free.
This is both before and after vdroop and vcore mods. Otherwise, fully stock MB and no mods on CT-479 adapter (yet).
This could be a i915 chipset only problem.
EDIT - reread Waus-Mod's post and he is using the same MB as me.
Someone who owns both fully modded i865/875 and i915 MBs with DDR voltage taps should log ram voltage readings during an exercise that shows using clockgen and cpuz to see if spikes show up.
I don't have the equipment (no voltmeters) or time to perform such an analysis right now.
i was running cpuz v1.31
and cpuz and clockgen not starting properly and taking forever to load or not starting at all were the first symptoms.
this seems to have to do with pushing the boards beyond what they are stable at... waus-mod also had his system at speeds it wasnt absolutely stable and then the system crashed/gave him a bsod...
good news, after the damn asus contact person for germany never replied to me i emails asus usa and taiwan and they both replied inmediatly :)
they requested more infos and will hook me up with somebody to have a look at this.
if you have some crappy memory please try to reproduce the issue you encountered and make notes of everything and post them here so i can forward them to asus. lets hope they fix this asap.
btw, this all seems to be related to the ct479 somehow... i wonder how...
doesnt make any sense at all to me until now how the ct470 could cause this :confused:
i know i have been running various versions of cpu-z. most recently (not up
to date it would seem) i'm running 1.30 with no probs. would have to go and
check my older screenies for what version that was. i know i have been using
1.29 and maybe 1.26 for testing. at times i even had eist and i865twk running
along with the other 2.. ahem :D

oh and seeing / reading about loading times. yes ocassionally it would take
like 10 seconds or so to load cpu-z (when clockgen was already running).
but on average cpu-z takes quite some time to load for me anyway - for
whatever reason, maybe even in the 10s range. i never timed it... but it
felt to long for such a "little" tool anyway. also at times i would get a screen
saying something along the lines of "another instance of cpu-z is already
running" - this would happen when i865/875 tweaker was running and i tried
to fire up cpu-z or something. so close the tweaker, open cpu-z and then
reopen tweaker would do it for me. strange really.
also regarding fsbs.. i have been way beyond 300 (313 iirc) with my fsb and
the ram at 5:4 or 3:2 (5:4 was 250ish) and never had a stick die yet. but
i wasnt ever over 250 with my mem so far iirc. maybe that's the issue. also
i have exchanged the asus nb-heatsink with a something bigger
My board was stock and vdimm was 2,85V
Something says me it's the SPD. Someone willing me to send an DDR333 stick of memory so I can exchange the spd ?
It has the spd screwed up or its trying to boot at the settings from the overclock?the setting that the ram failed for me is a stable setting in my 875p-t but I need to set it up to see if it will boot, thinkin its stuck at the speed it was runn in the p4c800 with cg when it failed.
but how would the spd play into this? i mean, my khx3200 come with spd settings of 200-2-2-2-6, i run them at -5. always have, same at 250 (not
that is was anything but superpi stable) but just so. the timings i had them
running at was:
cas: 2.0, ras2cas: 2, ras pre: 2, pre min: 5, pre max: 120µs, refresh: 64µs
dram: 01, perf mode: enabled
also would the spd be screwed up? wouldn't that rather be a bios issue?
something to do with the pm-compatible bios' for the asus boards?
I always used clockgen and cpu-z at the same time (v1.30) and had no problems with my bh-5 or my ballistix...
I think it's time for hipro to find out whats going on and make a wonder mod, hehe :rolleyes:
Other than fordf250 has this happened to anyone else in the U.S.?
The reason I ask is it may be possible the difference in current, 230/50Hz in Europe and 120/60Hz in U.S. could have something to do with this.
I am currently running a 740 with 2x512 Mushkin Lvl II and 2x256 TwinMOS BH-5 in a P4P800-SE with no mods. I blew 3 mosfets on a P4C800-E Del and now that is fixed I will finish the mods on it and test with CT-479.
I have a 512MB stick of BH-5(Corsair) that fails at 412MB, so I can test with it. But I almost always have cpu-z open with clockgen and Tw865 - no problems.
