So long as I can still get a 170 I'm OK. I've had my eye on that for my next chip. Think I've had this one a couple months now. It's like senior citizen. :p:

No that is what small picture would say. But big picture is that there will be no single core shortly and they have to invest money with at least few years on advance. Lose small amount by producing bunch of dual cores to be used as single core for short term while phasing out old fab and moving to new fab isn't bad idea at all if they choose to. Just look at year ago... main stream money was AXP... now where is it now? In same way look a year later. Considering how much money is involved upgrading fabs, and the fact AMD never were able to produce enough chip to take on big OEM, it sounds like to me logical choice.

Didn't Monarch just get some more in recentaly? (Here.) I remember them being out of stock, and I looked today only to see they had the 165 and 170 back in stock.
ouch... 365$? well same price it was here in germany,,, but i hoped it would be cheaper in the us...
hope i get my christmas money asap and can get one of those chips :(
That's strange, several stores in Sweden have new shipping dates now, from middle Dec to beginning of January.Quote:

most shops claim 3-4 days if hey are out of stock, because thats the time it tskes them to re-stock from their suppliers, but they havent updated this for over a week, so the suppliers are out of chips it seems...
there are 148 and higher chips and 170 and 175 chips, but thats it...
I just realized your sig Saaya... lol.... damn... I hate octoberfest.... only reason being the compressor I ordered from Danfoss in september came in december in US and arrived as WRONG compressor. I think the employee at danfoss still had hang over...Quote:

Think reason supply of higher end chip is not dead yet might be since it probably doesn't sell in as much numbers. I mean honestly, how many people in forum have 180 in their hand, how many has 175, how many has 170 and how many 165. I bet 80-90% of people have gone for 165. (I didn't just because of multiplier since it will eventually go to phase)
I meant stores that actually have a specific date, and not the "usually ships in 1-3 weeks" style, you know. I've seen 144, 146, 165...
well same here mats, but i know those shops well enough to know they just make those dates up all the time... so i dont trust them :D
and each shop has a different date... :D
another indiaction to believe its just made up.
and yeah jinu, 170 would be best, but i cant afford that :(
they replacing the E3 for new revison E4 CG but only in venice 3200 and 3500 :
AMD has discontinued shipping the Athlon 64 3000+ to major retailers. The current stepping E3 with the "Venice" core will get a refresh by the name of E4, and a "CG" ending on the CPUs(for example a retail 3200+ will carry the SKU: ADA3200CGBOX), but it will only produce 3200+ and 3500+ with this stepping
THis all start to make sense ;) .
148,150,152,170,175, NewEgg in the states seem to have plenty at the moment. Just got a 175 boxed but it's not that great a clocker.
rgr i got my 170 boxed from the egg on thursday and it hits 2.7gh which isn't bad with about 1.5v but goes though cands like butta compared to my X2
Can we have the official answer from AMD?Not good for AMD when we are thinking they are "unserious company".
*looks at his 4 opteron 165's*
My precious! heh
If im correct, everyone has bought out the 14X and 16X CPUs nearly everywhere, but ALL 939 opterons are being canned by AMD, that includes opteron 170 and 150,152 etc.Quote:

Has anybody ever seen the claim they are stopped from anybody else than Tankguys (not counting inquirer)?
Maybe Vandi423 can find some info about this? Give him a PM.
hey, just to toss my hat into the ring.
i talked with my Opteron account rep @ AMD today. the following is what came out of that conversation.

in light of all the information going around re: the Inq article, i made a few calls and got the real story.
1.) the s939 Opterons are NOT going away. Rather, the 1xx series opterons will be transitioned to Socket M2 and positioned as entry level 1P server/workstation procs. AMD will be positioning the X2's as upper-end consumer processors and the A64s will be mainstream. Didn't ask about Sempron since i don't care.
2.) the 2xx and 8xx series Opterons will be moving to Socket F in Q2.
3.) the Opteron 185 is coming Q2, 2006 around the time of the complete transition to M2. This will be an M2 part only.
4.) EOL processors will be the 140, 142 (i think the 140 is EOL'd already, but, whatever). 144 is coming soon with the 146 to follow. the Opteron 165 is NOT BEING discontinued though stock will remain tight INTO Q1, 2006. You will see some part discontinued in Q3/Q4 next year with the appropriate pricing moves happening along the way.

just to clarify. I'm still getting opterons (matter of fact, see here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dave_graham/72971715/ )

i rma a box 180 to AMD last week and received a OEM with my box back.....
AMD Rep told me there is no more 180 box in stock with them..... but they list my 180 OEM to BOX database...... so 180 OEM become BOX CPU lol

Russian web site x-bit labs reports AMD is denying that S939 Opterons are being discontinued, in fact, shipments will continue through 2006.
