I did try just patching the corner first.. didn't post.. I seriously think the waterblock was shorting out the resistors.. somehowQuote:

But in your case, since the trace is exposed if I were you I would use nail polish to coat the damaged surface, after the polish dried then put the electrical tape back on, the black tape survived 60'C for few months when I had the 3700 SD with XP-90 awhile back :D :D
Yea...Nail polish or conformal coating. Also has the benefit of building up a waterproof layer for when u feel the need to put it under phase/DI/LN etc :)
Glad to hear its working..got sadder as the thread went on then happy again! :)
yeah, just to add... noone should ever pry up an IHS, when the RTV has been successfully CUT, the IHS will FALL off. Start in the corners, then cut lightly in circles til the IHS falls off... maybe 20 minutes :(

so.. I'm finally planning on volt modding/adding my gtx to the water loop which means taking off the cpu block.. so now I'm wondering:
Is *any* kind of nail polish safe to use?
I may just keep the tape if it's lookin ok.. but i think it's why my cpu temps didn't drop at All somehow...
*edit* was doing some prime95 testing tonight and somehow my temps are 33idle and 41 load now... maybe the as5 had to "set in" almost-kinda worth it now... maybe some of the tape warped and it can breathe now? guess we'll see if i ever vmod...slacker is me.
*edit #2* just incase anyone reads this shtuff.. finally tried the vmod and removed the cpu block.. tape looked the same so.. looks like it was just the as5 needing to "set in" to blame for the 10-11c drop in temps...
Of course it's safe. I use normal duct tape, and didn't had a problemQuote:

Sometimes i forgot to turn my water pump on, and the water surelly passed 80ÂșC sometimes, more than once, everything is still fine.
I haven't the cpu much clocked yet so it olds the system stable with such high temps.
i'm gonna guess that it's wise to stay away from metallic/glittery nail polish :)Quote:

all I did to get it working again was stick electrical tape over everything.. and boom back to 3ghz heaven(still haven't tried higher)..Quote:
