Um... Oh man, I just realized that I have never fiddled with the htt multiplier when I OC. So, that means I am currently running at 1375 HTT. LOL, I'm gonna go lower the multi to 4x and get it back down to 1000's. I can't believe I completely forgot about this.
GTX 256 competes with the X1800xt 256, which isn't out either...Not even review samples on that card.
No... the XT 512 was always meant to compete with the GTX 256. And it was clearly stated in the article that the PE is competition to the GTX 512. The XT 256 is somewhere in the middle and currently isn't a great choice because you might as well go for the XL 256 and OC it. I don't expect as many XT 256 cards to sell because they are't competing at any particular price point, they aren't the best card but they aren't priced differently enough from the card above and below to make it worth buying. The reason no one reviewed them is becuase it isn't an iteresting card and there IS nothing to compare it to.
I'm really looking forward to this chipset as it'll give me a reason to upgrade from the Asrock I have now. Unless nVidea can make a chipset with no HTT limitations.
How can it be possible to run that high HTT ?
Whats different is it to Nforce4 ?
It's not about what an article claims..
Competition works as this, Top end NVidia vs. Top end ATi. Right now, that's the 7800GTX 512mb vs. the x1800XT. The X1800xtpe will have a different beast to worry about, the 7800gtx 512mb is a limited edition card, only meant to last til Q1, in Q1 NVidia will drop one of two beasts. 90nm G70, or the g80 depending on what ATi do.... Keep in mind, the x1800xtpe won't be out til q1.
Just because ATi says their card isn't meant to compete against the 7800gtx 512mb doesn't mean it's not it's current competition, after all, it *was* released 1 week after official availability of the x1800xt(in-store time was only 3 days apart). Same timeframe = they compete. End of story. After all, the X1800xt came out 5 months after the 7800gtx 256mb, and the 7800gtx 512mb came out RIGHT AFTER the x1800xt. So, what's competiting with what here?
You see, the XTPE isn't out, so it's not currently to compete with anything, because paper can't beat hardware in anything. Therefore, it's the X1800XT 512mb vs. the 7800GTX 512mb. Is this that hard for you to understand?
That's like saying intel's cedar mill is suppose to compete with AMD's socket M2, or AMD's x2 3800+ is suppose to compete with conroe.
No, if X1800XT had been released when it supposed to be released it would had the 256GTX to compete with.
Nvidia released a faster GTX when XT was released, and ATi will release a faster card to try to take the "crown" back.
The PE whatever it will be cant compete with 90nm G70, that would be one huge failure.
And what can the PE be ? 1.1ns is the fastest you can get so max 1800 on ram and GPU to 700 max i guess ?
But reading anandtech and other sources the R520 will fade out and be replaced by R580 so finding the X1800XT PE card cant be that easy =)
But comparing top end cards can be done 512GTX vs 1800XT.
Why are you so upset that people are comparing the x1800XT to the 7800GTX 256MB? It doesn't matter what you say or what anyone else says, ATI said the x1800XT was aimed at the 7800GTX 256MB. Period. You want to do comparisons with the x1800XT and the 512MB GTX, fine you do that. An OCed x1800XT can beat a stock 512MB GTX, but not an OCed 512MB GTX.Quote:

Interesting to observe how certain forum members seem to decide what competes with what in the hardware business, and what doesn't. Actually, everything out there competes with everything, some with price (not to be confused with MSRP), some with performance/features etc. Dil has a point though, vapourized paper rarely competes with anything. ;)

I get the feeling that X1800XT and current crossfire chipset is not good and they dont really want to continue them.

ATi is working on something to compete, something we won't see until NVidia release their new card, and it's almost time for the R580. To compete, the card MUST already be there. The x1800xt competes with the 512mb 7800gtx, get that thru your head. High end vs. high end, and both fall in the same price range. After all, MSRP is only $50 difference between the two, compared to almost $150 between the x1800xt and 7800gtx. End of story.
You're saying we should compare a brand new card against a card that's been out for 5 months instead of the card that came out at the same time? That's just ridiculous, are you completely out of your mind? Just because a company doesn't want their card compared against something faster, doesn't mean that's how it works....
Right now ATi is in a VERY bad position....Paper can't compete with hardware, and neither can vapor(unless there's condensation in the vapor, then it'll beat the hardware :lol: :spill: )

Well ATI is in a bad position because they had delays because bugs so yes they are a few months late with those chips...and the GTX 512 MB as an U on some chips and came 5 months after the GTX 256MB....as a refresh...so it s their ULTRA...it has more than just +256mb....
Of course we can only compare hardware in stores and not a 90 nm g70 or a g80 or an r 580 but Anand can do it cause they have some interesting hardware.... :)

So I dont understand why ATI cannot take a few months to refresh its 1800XT like nvidia did....they will eventually catch up don't you think so? ;)

Look at last at year it was the complete opposite. ATIS R9800/9850 XT where beating the CRAp out of nvidia. They beat nvidia worse than nvidia is beating ATI now.
If ATI is comming out with something promising soon we should give them a chance and see if whatever they release is any good and if so and it suits us then we buy it.,
7800gtx 512 exist now the PE does not. top card from each company is a good match up. Perhaps we shouldnt compare dual core p4s with amd x2's because the p4 platform was made to compete with amd xps.Quote:
