this card is getting on my nerves, I wish I wasn't so hasty and waited for the XT. No matter what I still get artifacts in FEAR yet in nothing else. How is this possible I have no clue. On top of that everytime I try and use the voltage tool I get greeted by a solid black screen forcing me to reboot my system the second I hit set clocks. This is the 3rd time I have made a hasty decision on a video card and have regretted it. I fell into the whole X800VIVO flash crap which of course contained a failed core to begin with which is why it was vivo and not XT. I then got the X800XL which clocked like 20mhz over stock max and now this, yet again I knowingly buy a failed cored card expecting the best yet it never happens. I will not make this mistake again. If you want the best you have to pay for the best as you only get what you pay for.

I got myself a 16-pipe card that still works today, worked at xtpe speeds, and now its water cooled by a new owner doing over 580/570 with stock volts. What card did you get? Can a core be damaged/faulty and only show artifacts in one game/bench but nothing else? I can't figure out why my card shows arties in FEAR but NOTHING else. The artifacts arent horrible horrible and aren't all the time but you can see them flashing on and off the screen periodically. I was hoping for a driver issue but considering no one else has these at all and I used 5.11 from a fresh format I think I am hoping for too much on this.
BTW anyone else greeted with black screens when using the overclocker utility either when pressing up arrow to raise voltage or when pressing set clocks?
When setting set clock, yes (then overclocker window on desktop are on different position a little) but not when i raise voltage.

The artifacts are not easy to see but far from impossible. It isn't like the entire screen is littered with them but every few minutes its like a small bunch of little black squares flashes on and off the screen almost immediately but you see them in the corner of your eyes here and there every once in awhile. I can loop all 3dmarks and aquamark without issue for hours. I beat Quake IV (not the entire game however) without issue and from what I can tell from the 30 mins I played of COD2 it was fine too. I am hopefull as well that a new driver in a few weeks will rectify all problems with this card as well as a better program to set clocks and volts that perhaps stick as should and remail after a reboot/power up. I hope when 256M XT bios start floating around someone will have some positive results with them. I am unsure if I should RMA this card or sell it. Besides the very small issue with FEAR all else runs perfect so could this be a bad card or just a whatever type thing. If that is the case I can just sell the card and get an XT and start all over. If this problem gets rectified and I can finally feel happy with this card again like I did the first few days I owned it then I will keep it till next summer when the R580 comes out at which point I will go for the flagship model for the first time in my life.Quote:

@ cantankerous, everyone get a black screen when setting the clocks...u just hope it switches on again! When i get a black screen i just raise volts which most of the time it fixes the problem.
BTW Whats the highest voltage u have tried on ur card?
the problem for me is the screen doesn't come back. The LED on my monitor turns yellow and pressing the numlock key on my keyboard proves its halted. Only way to get it back is by a hard reset. Believe it or not I haven't tested above 1.150v which is pathetic.
On a side note I ran 3D01 for 5.5 hours with the door closed in a hot room last night and when I returned it was still running strong and without artifacts. When I left for work I left 3d03 looping for 9.5 hours straight and when I returned it was still going strong and without artifacts. This was at 575/550 1.125v. Why can my card go through all this torture yet FEAR throws artifacts no matter what? I even installed Lost Coast last night as I haven't tried it yet and with all details set to high, reflection set to reflect all and HDR set to all I had no artifacts while playing. I would assume that is putting pressure on the card as well. I have no clue what FEAR is doing to my card to make it flash little black squares but the fact that it isn't happening in anything else boggles my mind.
cantankerous# Are you sure that you are clocking the 3d clocks and not the 2d??:) Course EXACTLY what is happening to you happens to my x1800xt if i mess with the 2d clocks.
ALso..have you tryed another BIOS ??:)

I think ur fear problems is due to lack of voltage to the GPU.
Remember u are OC'ing the card...even if just a little. Maybe FEAR is pulling more power than ur other games...who knows :confused:

Have anyone tried pelt/water on the gpu yet ??? how mutch heat does it produce..? iam thinking doing my XL under 226w pelt and coooold tapwater :p: WHEN I GET MY CPU.... that iam waiting for!
