It's simple, don't use beta drivers.
Yes, they may bump up benchmarks and look nice, but they're not FM approved anyway (and AQ3 is MIA).....b stands for beta and buggy.
Rest assured that nV is working on solid DC drivers.

FM = Futuremark. AQ3 = Aquamark3. IIRC, there is a way to run different drivers for different games, but that might be an ATi thing (and it's not a feature, more of a work around from what I remember).

I just played serious sam on my new X2 3800+ with the latest beta 8x.xx driver from nVidia and there are no issues with sound.
Ah, no wonder that was the case. Those drivers are now WHQL'ed
