you want as much mass possible but at the same time you want the flow of liquid to be equal to that to cool your evap/container efficantly so temps swing is as close to nothing as possible.

even with 3 stage -140c cascades the evap will limit the overclock becasue of the mass of the evap can only hold temps at a set level from swinging becasue of thermal dynamics :)

So your saying, don't use thermal paste when using phase change? :confused:

Can you do me a huge favor and run 16M next time you have a chance to bench that beast around 3.8Ghz, please? I've been waiting very long time to see 9:00 in 16M on AMD and this might be that one chance :) Thanks a ton, man :up:

Question: If you add, say, a copper mass between the evap and the IHS, wouldn't the larger mass of the cooling head be able to maintain a better load temp (at the cost of lower temps of course)? I agree that using a thinner/smaller contact area with the cooling head will utilize the freon/DI with more effeciency, but wouldn't a larger mass translate to less of a swing in loaded temps?

Guess, here is my evap. temp(-84.7C) and core on bios(-27C).....I put a dry film (aluminium) thermal interface....
I still try to get -30ish core temp. so its mem. controller hopefully can run @ higher htt...
What is your temps ay that run?

i think you are totally right.
any mass reduces core temperatures imo...if there is -40°C left because of the layers between die and evap there is no need for cascades anymore - just use a weaker cooling unit e.g. single stage ^^
this way you will just try what's the lowest temp the unit will work properly.
my 3200+ winchester was unstable @-45°C and lowering the pressure, getting temps up to -30°C didn't help...back to air ~40°C 2750MHZ @1.61V no problem - damned cold bug :slapass:

What is your temps ay that run?

my temp @ bios reads -33C @ 1.74v
and -45C @ 1.5v ^^
