Would 1.700V be safe on a 3000+ for 24/7 use?

I see a lot of people using the voltage reported in cpu-z. Is this the voltage that we should be refering to. Currently I have mine at 1.65v but I know what ever it is set to in the bios is higher like 1.7 or more. Dfi is really quirky so you never know.

Some of the temps I've seen in this thread are too high for the heatsink being used. As a reference I built a system with an XP-120 on a venice at 1.56v @ 289x9 and didn't get temps much higher than 41c. This was with a panaflo medium speed fan. I love the XP-120 for air cooling it is a very good design especially when it is combined with a dfi 939 board.

I should add that I always sand down the bottom of any heatsink with a flat mirror up to a wet 2000 grit.

Hey guys, well when I run my chip at 3GHz I have my volts up to 1.76v in mbm but in the bios it reads 1.78v and my temps dont go over 42c on air.

1,78 is hard for 0.09 chips, think about the sudden death syndrom on p4. Why shouldn't something simmilar happen to our Athlons if we run such excessive voltage through it ?

Dude can we see prime 95 screen shots along with cpu-z. I believe you but damn 3 Ghz. Thats extremely kick azz on air. What do you get at 1.7v


How much did the bios help. I found that 1-25 was the best so far for me.

i run my 3000+ at 2.75ghz with 1.66v, its max prime temp is 53C on TT Big Typhoon. Room temps are 75-80F.

I am planning to pump 1.75v into my Venice 3000+ with a G4 Storm + Thermo 120.3 + Laing D5 combo. Shoud be alrite I reckon. My chip likes volts coz it does 2.6Ghz primed @ 1.6v on stock cooler :rolleyes: Its a LBBLE 0517 GPAW and its one cool chip :p:

Why doesn't somebody just go for 2v and see how long they prime for. :rocker: Just think if it last we'll all be running 2v next week. :rocker:

I'll maybe try soon when I have one of those "all :banana::banana::banana::banana:ed up"-days :D

I have a ss but its not with CPU-z in it. But I'll run it tonight and give ya a new ss.

the 510-2Fixed bios is one of the best yet! I know it helped my oc. what also helped was my tref etting. I changed it from 2048 which was 133 1.95us to 4672 which is 166 7.8us and I could then boot at HTT 334. also I took the IHS off and my temps dropped down from idle 34-35c to 30-31c and load from about 46-47c to 41-42c.

I run 1.712V on water on my winchester for 24/7 to make it enjoy 2750mhz stable.

Now, while I get to re-design the loop, I run at stock volqtage, I cannot feel the 200mhz difference in my everyday working.

Though for a venice i would think twice, on air I dare not go over 1.65 for extended periods on my main CPU. Back in the AXP days you could afford a few lying around :)

Ok, Now at 1.7V my temps are jumping between 49 & 50 degrees these are the maximum load temps and it is about 30 degrees in the apartment too so this is about the hottest it will ever get are these temps ok? 24/7 use remember?

I didn't like 5-10. How is 510-2Fixed bios different. Maybe I'll try it I'd like 338x8 I think I could get there I'm just not that familiar with all the wierd memory options.

Well Merlin used the 316 romslip for it so its tweaked a little more. You should really try it! It really let me oc a little farther.

njkid32 how much voltage is going to your memory.

1.7 on air is suicide, IMHO.

I never go over 1.5 on air.

never go over 1.5 on air? That's pretty conservative i would say, i can run 1.6 volts all day long.

Yea it seems that way I would stay at 1.7V but I am hitting 50+ degrees on AIR :/ looks like I will drop to 1.6V and a lousy 2.7Ghz :slapass:

To whoever said Venice runs cooler then Winchester. It's opposite. Venice consumes ~5W more at same clock, same volts.

1.7X+ on air is xtreme & suicide.

1.65 is safe on air for me.

I run 3.2v on the 5v rail. For some reason on my system it runs much better off the 5v instead of the 3.5v rail. Dont know why.. I have tested till I was blue in the face.. :eek: I am going to lower it a little more and burn it in. These CH-5 chips dont like more than 3.5v cuz they give tons of errors in memtest.

your all a bunch of wussies hehe i run as much volts as i can on my sandiego it works best with the most volts. wont boot above 1.825 tho the machine wont post but @ 1.825 i can do superpi at 2920mhz and thats pretty sweet. temps are no concern on this cpu as under water cooling it goes to 42-44c max prime95 load and wont go higher and its warm in my house!

btw does anyone know why the machine wont post above a certain voltage as i would love to do some 3gh + benching with some more volts. what component dont like it the cpu or the mobo???

Jeez, I thought I was bad running 1.78v but 1.825v you got balls! What chip and mobo do you have?
