I can't tell you exactly how many ohms it was at when I hit 1.62 volts. It would only be a guess if I said anything.
I used the # 8 pin and ground. I soldered the ground to the metal ring around the mobo mounting hole. I combined that mod with the vid 4 vss mod.

Turn the 50k resistor to 50k ohms. I then booted into bios where I found 1.56v default. I turned the 50k vr until I reached 1.62v in the bios. Sweet :clap:

Next time I run the setup, I will check you max volts with this combination.

thx!! I used the "point a" because it was easier to solder, maybe I should try the pin8.

I think one of the places that carry the adapter is Atacom.

i still am using my aopen 855gme board w/ dothan 400fsb part and my everyday setup gets me 29sec superPi@ 135 fsb@ 2.7gz. I'm more than happy with it. :)

For anyone interested, eWiz has the adapter for about $51, including shipping, and also has the 533 FSB Dothans (730/740/750/760) last time I checked.

Intel is scheduled to have a price drops on these cpus on July 24th which will drop the price down on a 740 from about $260 down to $210 or so (ballpark $$$).

sorry, no my prescott does idle around 38c and loaded 45c-48c depending on the barometric pressure. I used to get those kind of temps when it was winter and my temp in my room was only 60f but now that summer has rolled around and the heat has started my temps are getting out of hand.

Is it my imagination or is the entire CPU situation "out of control"????

AMD releases x2, Intel releases the Smithfield, the 955x, the 925XE lasted like 4 months, the 925X lasted even less... now we're on the outside of yonah, et. al...

Remember back in the day of Intel P4/533 and AMD XP, there'd be a new CPU every 6 months, usually a simple multi change, lol... and the chipset would last about a year?? SOmetimes longer.

I long for the days of 845 and 865/875!!!!!

hello!

hello!, im a long time reader and frst time poster here at XS. i've been watching the dothan threads as of late, and it has compelled me to pick up a 730, ct-479 and a p4p800-se. i will be going all air, and have a few questions for ya.

1) did you do the solder mod on the power connection for the adapter to get the 7700 to fit?

2) i have an old TT spark7 laying around, and access to a mill. would it be easier for me to just mill out the sink to fit around the adapter?

3) would the spark7 be enough to get me in the 2.6ish area? ( i know alot depends on the cpu itself, but i know little to nothing about the dothan other then it's great performance)

im going to be coupleing this with some geil pc4000 i have in my current system. it can do 2 3 3 6 at up to 220, but it gets 2.5 4 4 7 at 250mhz.

Welcome to XtremeSystems!! :toast:

To mod the adapter, you can simply cut the pins flush with the pcb, then solder the individual 4 wires from the molex straight to the pcb. And the jumper pins, also cut them flush to the pcb and use conductive paint to connect the jumpers or solder a small piece of wire.

I had a small amount of trouble when I was resoldering my adaptor wires. I melted the pins loose from the pcb. It all worked out but it was a hassle.

If I were you, I would check to see if the heat sink fan clears the pins first. It may be easier for you and less risky to notch the hsf. (Just a thought)

My 730 would just barely do 2600 with the hsf that came with the adaptor, but 2600 is sweet.

Before you do any modding, test your equipment stock and then make an accessment. :woot:

Simply if you have racoon hands, not my pressed-ham hands designed to hold large clubs and beat mammals to death with them (my ancestors were obviously cavemen). :lol: That was not an easy solder job for me, as the pins are so godamned close together. Yeah, the Egg doesn't carry the CT-479 either, WTF?

I got my 760 at MWave, and the adapter at Ewiz.

If I had it to do over again, I would have got a 750 or 740, as 200 is a lot easier to hit!

I did try vcore up to 1.7v + with these mods. I will try higher with better cooling.
The vid pin wire mod is a breeze.. The vcore #8 pin mod is a bit tougher. The tiny legs on that chip are close together. It might be easier for you to solder onto the resistor. I did include pics in my post above. ;)

A little update, I got the Vcore mod working, which is good.

OTOH, when I was doing the Vcore mod, I had the hs/f sitting on the table... when I was finished soldering, I just reassembled everything without cleaning and reapplying TIM. Well I tore it down later because I was getting bad temps, and I had 2 small chips on the FACE of the core... probably from a couple specs of dust!

It still works fine, so I don't think it damaged anything, but it just reminds me how FRAGILE these things are when you're trying to get a good contact! Oh and BTW, also found out that when you install Dothan + Zalman 7700Cu in a CASE, the weight of the HS/F pulls the base offf the core slightly, and there go your temps. It's because the Zalman uses only 2 anchoring points across the very small width of that core....

We need some good shims, or a real IHS...

Anyone have an old P4 IHS to try and see if it fits??

cheers mate :D. all my settings are done from bios 24/7 = 235x12 ram is set at 320 in bios due 2 mobo not likin the new bh5, so im now on the look out for 4x512mb old skool bh5 which can do at least 235 2-2-2-5 with 3.3v

ive also jus got my HIS x850xt pe, finshed fully voldmoddin it and attachin a copper heatsink last night.... so far im benchin at 675 / 662 on air, gets jus under 8k 3dmark05 and 16.6k 3dmark03 :woot:

I ripped the IHS off my P4 3.0C the other day, and my P-M 740 will be arriving in the next few days, so i will let you know how the P-M goes with the IHS when it arrives.

I swear WinXP SP2 is better than win2k for dothans in 01. Haven't seen anyone match my lobbies or car high in win2k at similar speeds, see sig.
