Thats a nice PM you got there but not everyone has a cascade to get thier Dothan to 3GHz LOL!! FX55@3GHz isn't common either of course, and A64 is in mid life too, another die shrink will probably put the ball back in AMD's court and then AMD better have K9 ready for prime time otherwise merom/conroe will really put the screws to them...

I see the cyber athletes are at it again.:) Now run 32m and watch how slow dothan gets.. it will be at LEAST 25% slower than similarly clocked A64, I've done it I know.. Like it matters.. What is superpi for anyway???? NOTHING! and Dothan is still weak at the only thing it's good at, super pi. Can't win any of the higher calculations...

Dothan gets dominated by a 512 cache budget chip. Sure if you're into cyber olympics, 1M 2M and 3dmark01 only, go buy a dothan but I have a feeling 99.9% use thier computer for more than just siperpi 1M 2M and 3dmark01, which A64 still reigns supreme...

You base this on one test? Then my anceint mobile XP must be the fastest chip around since it dominates POV Ray @ 2700Mhz... it's even faster than my A64.

BTW guys here's my Dothan/Winchester Comparo I did a couple months back showing one more of Dothans collosal performance flaws.

Dothan running at 2.0GHz on an AOpen 855 desktop board Mushkin PC3200 Level 2 @ 167Mhz, 2-2-2-5. WinXP sp2.
32M = 43:46
1M = 40 <<<< Winnar by 3.5%

Winch 3000 running at 2.0Ghz on Epox 9NDA3J Ballistix@222Mhz 2-2-2-7 WinXP sp2
32M = 35:22 <<<<< Winner by 25%
1M = 42

Not ready for primetime cross-the-boards apps or Intel would have it out, simple as that. We shall see next year after they fully copy A64 if it's ready:D

Thats a terrible comparision....Dothan with RAM @ 167Mhz against an A64 @ 222MHz. C'mon man. :stick:

Deal with the issue at hand. It'd take an FX/San Diego clocked at 2.85 GHz at the very least to match that time done at 2.67GHz. I'm not debating SuperPI's usefullness, just your assertion that Dothans are slower in the 32M test...they are most certainly still much faster.

The tests you posted are worth moot, since the memory is running so much slower than the other systems, and furthermore with slower timings as well...

And the sad part is, that everyone you're trying to argue with already owns Athlon64 systems...I've got one myself. Quit singing to the choir and just let us have some fun.

the dothan can reach 3004mHz on water, lol... my cascade wasn't making good contact and had terrible temps. And most good new FX55's can bench at 2900mHz++ on AIR.

I gotta tell ya, that 32M time is VERY, VERY impressive. That's my Winnie @ 2876Mhz. I tried to find a screenie with a time close to yours... 200Mhz more on Winnie and more/less same time :slobber:

Interesting comparison of the SD and Dothan if you look at the details the SD was ahead to past loop 11 then the Dothan pulled ahead.
Edit wait Charlie you said Ben's SD3700+ but the screenshot is a Venice 3200+?

Can someone put a 3dmark2001 and 03 score up with Dothan at say 2600Mhz ( a likely air cooled value ) so I can get a feeling for how it compares to an FX-55 at 2900 ( a likely air cooled value ) ?

Dothan certainly does seem to favour Superpi, as do most Intel, how does it get along in pifast at 2600 though as well ?

C, Like I said look at AT's review. That *is* with adaptor and Asus P4C800. A64 is stronger at same hurtz

That does'nt mean I think Memron won't pwn all, it will... sorta reminds me of the song "Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better" -intel :p:

Here ya go, in 01' around 1400 points higher than fx55 130nm @2600MHZ with x800xtpe @default card clocks and 200x13 5-2-2-2 on dothan(ct-479 hsf) fx @ 2900mhz might beat it in 01'

Zebo, regadless of "how usefull a Dothan is", it does not alter the fact that a Dothan setup at a third of a FX's CPU price beats the FX.

That alone is a feat, even if the CPU in your mind is not the best thing since sliced bread. I have to agree with Charlie on this one, a dothan is quite a spectacular CPU, especially, though not necesarily in regards to its price/performance ratio :toast:

Frankly, I've known dothan walks all over everything in Spi. (Hell even Netburst chips beat FX in Spi). I don't care about Spi. Make us another thread for gaming performance Charlie. That's the numbers I want to see. Or do you not have an FX you can use right now?

Incidentally, anyone want me to SPI dothan 715 @ 167 vs Venice 3200+ @ (I'm hoping for at least 2900 sPi 1m-capable, 290x10 ram at 166setting (5:6) (241?) would be nice) when my DFI gets here tomorrow? Might not be able to bench the A64 for a few days. I still haven't had a chance to RMA my UTT (Set came with one stick getting errors @ stock in Memtest). I'll also Spi my 730 at it's best clocks when it arrives. (replacing the 715 with it.)

You cant call that a Comparision...

Good results there Kingpin... Gaming performance is what matters the most to me (3D Mark 01) then super pi to see how fast it can complete calculations.

Looks like the Dothan win's in both...

Your are ALWAYS going to get Fanboys on either side trying to make one better than the other etc but from what Ive seen around lately, I know what my new 24/7 rig is going to be based on ;):D
