anyway I expect alot of price gorging when venice first comes. I will wait for prices to drop and also see if ill be needing a new mobo to be compatable with venice.
I want one too.Quote:

He is probably assuming it, there is noway he can know it if he haven't tried like 50 diffrent steppings and such :)
Remember, its all relative. There have been 3 posts on here about venice? So if he adds them all up, divides by 3... he gets their average.Quote:

yep that is just a big assumption as I've only seen 3 or so benches for venice chips. That is way to small of an amount to judge what the overclocking ability of the overall majority of these chips.Quote:

They are tight lip because the sale of lousy Winchesters they made in the past few months is dead as soon as they release Venice. So there might be a delay to get rid of the CBBID junk.
As far as I am concerned they are not getting a penny from me for that. We'll see what Venice can really do, hopefully soon.
Well monarch is being tight lipped about it. This is the conversation I had with one of their reps.

Hi,
I'm wondering when the AMD 64 Revision E(Venice Core) processors will be available for order.
Monarchchrish wrote on 03-30-2005 04:16 PM:
We have heard alot of bizz about this from customers of ours, however we have talked to amd and they say there is no offical release date as of yet. Sorry but check back with me later in the week and i will see if I can get a straight answer from AMD.
c42: It's later in the week =). Just wondering if you have any word on this. As I'm VERY anxious to get ahold of one of these and do some reviews etc.
Monarchchrish:Amd has not released any news on these cards and do not know when they are going to be released. Sorry, they said they have no idea why anyone had any idea that they were going to be released but they are not.
"AMD has not released any news on these cards" - is it me or is Monarchchris babling?
Exactly. His hands are tied basically by a NDA. Since they are close with AMD(amd64 release partners, first to have winchesters, and perhaps first with venice?) I don't think they would want to screw that up. So he basically just gave a generic answer.Quote:

Nah... dude AMD won't delay because of crappy winchesters... If the winchesters RUN at the speed they are rated they will sell... The problem is you are thinking that the majorety if AMD customers think like you and me (well actually all of XS). We are in the minorety, AMD doesn't care about overclocking and knows 95% of it's customers don't care about overclocking either... (actually I can bet that AMD would rather have NO headroom in their chips as it makes more business sense to market a chip at it's maximum abilities, However supply and demand laws govern the seperate price points in which AMD sells at)Quote:

Essentially there is a greater profit margin in each winchester, yet they are selling at greater or equivalent prices to the NewCastles. Amd has room to wiggle but, won't unless it is necessary to deplete stock...
Edit: Not to mention the 95% of AMD's customers only look at the rated value (i.e a 3000+ is a 3000+, they won't know what Venice is...)
because I killed my 3000+ winny that does 2850 24/7 and need a replacement bad. :p:Quote:

As nice as that would be, this is the Internet here and nothing stays a secret for 24 hrs.Quote:
