Very strange, just like a totally locked CPU...
Guess that Cool n' Quiet doesn't work either? (not supported according to that pic)

I havent seen any reference to cool n quiet in the bios. I guess there are a few things that are not supported. Has any1 else got a winchester on the k8NSC-939? (long shot).

Crankybugga:Many motherboards have CnQ enabled by default, but no sign of it in BIOS or any chance to disable it. That doesn't matter though, because it won't start until you install driver and set the Power management to Min(?), so if you don't want it, it won't kick in. I think I've seen somewhere about a Gigabyte mobo with no BIOS option, maybe it's common in their budget boards. So maybe it works anyway on your mobo, but possibly not with your crazy CPU....

Edit: Your mobo is not listed here, but as you can see there are some of them that haven't got a BIOS switch (most of them S754 though).

den, it sounds like cool and quiet is on with ur a64? cuz wut i hear is that when ur cpu is idle, cool and quiet will under clock it so that it gets cooler, and if u have smartfan on, teh fan will run quieter :) hince the name, so thats prolly y u might see the change in cpu frequency on ur 3200 i dunno bout p4 tho

As you say the K8NSC-939 is not listed on that page, but i did notice the Gigabyte GA-K8NSNXP939 which is also using the NF3 250Gb chipset...I wonder if its worth flashing to that bios?

Well just install AMD drivers and check it out, that's the easiest way.
Even an expensive Gigabyta SLI board lacks a switch for instance as you can see in the list, so you never know until you tried...

Would "CnQ" get highligted in CPUZ only if installed?

Have you tried AMD CPU info or CPUID?

I tried another gigabyte bios for the NF3 ultra to attempt to gain multi settings in the bios but to no avail. I really need some1 with skill like tictac to have a play with the orig bios and enable some things...if they are there...

If its a bug.... a bug that can alter the multiplier UP on a A64.... then its a bug we might all want to catch ;-)

Would really luv to know what going on here. Hard to belive AMD shipped a mislabeled chip....and none default to max XX.5 anyway.

I still stick to my hypothesis that a single "bit" got zapped somehow in the locked multiplier bridges that we dont know how to access, and the result is the odd unplanned multiplier you have.

Definately makes sense...It was limited to 10x multi in AV8...some RAM probs killed the AV8 and some BH5, I ordered a cheap intermittent m/b and from 1st boot the cpu was at 11.5
Im not complaining , but it would be good to know why, or if its the m/b.

There has only been 1 bios version for this m/b...F1. I have actually flashed the bios to a d/l ed F1 bios off the gigabyte web page. The bios does not allow for multi adjustment at all, which is a real killer.

Not on this setup...I know there should be...but there is no access to FID.
