Ok, XDR will intially run at about 3.2Ghz, making it 8x faster than the rare amounts of DDR2 that can run DDR800. You're talking about a jump from DDR800 to DDR6400. It won't need to overclock initially. Reports say that by 2006 Samsung will be able to scale it to 8Ghz, making it, what is that, DDR16000? That 20x faster than the best current DDR2. I understand this is XS, but assuming it runs at something lower than like 10-15-15-25(just making up random numbers here, no hating allowed), it should be more than sufficient. It would still be nice and fun as hack to OC, but there may not be an actual need for it. With that said, I don't believe this RAM will be seen in an AMD rig at anything near a reasonable price for several years to come... :stick:Quote:

It would be easy (given their man power and resources) for Intel to implement direct XDR support into their planned new chips, I fear an AMD killer platform on the way within the next 12 months that could spell game over... :eek:

It'll run on a completely new interface, new motherboard with chipset support, new CPU...
Chances are both nVidia and ATI would be the first mass buyers of XDR chips for their next gen graphics cards, if reports are anywhere accurate on the capabilities of those cards, neither could afford not to implement such killer bandwidth into their cards... :D
Wonder how long it will be till TCCD is completely gone off store shelves? Guess I will have to buy some gskill early. Where can I find some 2x512 LA?

hey all im really new here but i believe it was Sony or Microsloft who is planning on using the XDR memory chips @ a frequency of around 3 ghz to power their next gen console.ie PS3 or Xbx2 i will try to dig up that article somewhere

Well most BH-5 rocks, that is...mine is dying rapidly after a twenty minute run at 4.4v (NF7-S vDIMM mod + OCZ Booster) and I'm finding myself completely unable to overclock my new winchester 3500+ using the same ram...reckon I should pick up some TCCD? Or is there something else that can take me to and beyond 300FSB with relatively low timings? This looks really good

TheInq hasn't been known to have the most accurate information. I asked an OCZ rep that frequents forums (OCZJohn) about the rumor and he said he's heard of the rumor but nothing official. I woudn't worry so much until OCZ and other companies stop producing TCCD ram. Are there any other more reliable sources that you guys can quote? If not, take it easy for now...

yeah, but the difference between the absolute fastest memory today(DDR2) and XDR is nearly an order of magnitude. the difference between mainstream winnie's and FX-55's(and the OC'ing of the FX chips) is not nearly as great. At some point the law of diminishing returns kicks in, reducing the improvements seen by increasing speed. Games will play perfectly and applications will open instantly. The jump from DDR800 to DDR6400 would be HUGE, and at that point all of todays games will not even come close to utilizing that much bandwidth. Overclocking from say DDR6400 to DDR7000 or something would yield NO noticeable gains, except in the area of benchmarking. This is the only area where the overclocks of something of the speed of XDR would be noticeable at all.Quote:
