In regards to the cost involved it does seem to be very high now even for mid range cards in 2001, probably because you need to have a 1MB cache AMD64 as a base for lobby and car. As Dr Jay pointed out the other day if you can get a second hand 754 1MB AMD and a cheap AMD64 754 motherboard then you only need one really good stick of bh5 or Twinmoss or VX and this might be better than a 512KB AMD64 in a 939 board with mediocre pairing of memory .. and cost about the same.

The alternative is older cards like the GF3. The older or less powerful the card is the more the score depends on the card clocks and takes away from the power of the cpu, ie 2001 becomes card limited.

yah..... i have a clawhammer 754 setup almost complete, so that shouldnt be too bad for 3dmark benchin. the problem is... i cant use these cards on that ... because these are pci-e, and theres no 754 pcie boards :(, so either i gotta get an agp card somehow, or just stick with benchin with a 939 cpu (most definitely 512kb cache :( )....

about teh agp version... is that bridge chip slow down scores at all? and is it a PITA to cool?, if i were to run high voltages through teh core would that effect that bridge chip??

edit: also no SLI with agp cards... so i think im gonna bite the dust and bench with a 939 setup, probably a newcastle on phase change, and just use SLI to overcome your 1mb cache advantage ;), also if i can get some real cherry bh5 clocks (275+) for 3d i think that could make up for the loss in cache somewhat..

run at 605/1230 stock cooling it's my cpu not run over 2.95ghz...

I scored around 9100 or so with my 6600GT at 550/1.1 or so. With an intel 3.2 @ 3.9

Does around 2300 on default vcore. So far my Gskill does 280 2,5-3-3-7 Prime stable.

Andy, I won't beat your 3dmark01 score, but I'll give you one heck of a competition in 03/05! Idle is 39C, which is bloody crazy. It'll take some time, I'm first trying to find the limite on my CPU+RAM configuration. Still have to flash my DFI with the February BIOS. This one is working fine though (A001).

I try not to use duck tape, it's not "precise" enough. Nice clamps and other Physics Lab "merchandise" is preferable :D

Leftie.. :) I can write with both though, so I'm not leftie-restricted (apart from in Hockey and baseball). "The best of two worlds" perhaps :D

I'll have to try and post a good 03 and 05 score then so we can have a bit of fun. At the moment I am playing with a gf3 ti500 that arrived today, the world of 240/500 clock speeds needs some readjustment to. I love the old cards, it negates the Fx-55 to a large extent. For instance I had 12400 points at 200x12 and had 12600 points at 200x13, so 200Mhz gain only gave 200 points. With an X800XT that would be thousands.

Well made card this GF3 ti500, came with some 3d glasses, when drunk tomorrow I will post a pictures of me wearing them :D

The card gets nice artefacting already at 579 / 1150. I think it may be the drivers as I'm using the supplied ones by DFI with the mobo (don't know why they do so but hey).

On the other hand my memory is pleasing me! 290 2,5-3-3-7 is quite good for a 1GB kit ;)

Nice mem clocks ! The nVidia drivers on my DFI cd that came with my sli-dr are the good 66.93's my Chaintech card goes all the way to 590/1250 with some artifacting. I need a biod volt mod for my card though. Our system are more the same. :) Compitition :) Getting Asetek Waterchill next week and a new week 3200+ mmmm. Will also give the new bios a try. What artifacting do you get ? Junk the standard hsf or do what Shamino did and use small nuts. What temps are you running on the video card through a 3dmark run ( using rivatuner graph ) ?

zak, what kind of nature (in 3dmark2k1) do you get at about 600/(1200-12xx)?

i'm getting 116 at 600/1260 (card clocks nicely ;) ) just wondering if that 155 nature score is all from that 640 core... or if i'm not doing something right...

That sounds too low, should be in the high 130's I'd say from memory. Maybe it is throttling very slightly , try it at 590/1200.

i was getting a few runs in the low 11x's, then a few around 105... so i figured the ones around 105 were throttling. didnt know it would throttle slightly, or more heavily... i figured it was just one level of throttling.

havnt OCed a nvidia card since my gf2, so i have a bit to learn. ;)


EDIT: did a run at 591/1180, which is what nvidia detected as "optimal settings", and got 111fps in nature. i havnt rebooted in about 20 nature runs, but that should only drop it a few fps... not 135 -> 116... :stick:

im going crazy on this piece of :banana::banana::banana::banana: cant even do 585 1.5v, thinking of killing it i cant fix it ..

it cant run 3dmark without artis but i can run 600 without artis in games...

in the nvidia display panel, it says the core slowdown threshold is 127C, and i never see the core temp go over 56C.
