Intel dropping P4 brand name...

holy geez 130 watts power dissipation and 125 amps of current draw?? that means it's gonna run at about 1.04 volts!!! I think Intel has stock in energy markets and HVACR. It's gonna draw lots o power and heat your house in the summer time!!

I'm thinking
Intel GroundZero
Intel Fission
Intel Fusion
Intel WMD (we found one finally and it was designed in israel by intel :D )
Intel Unstable
Intel werintrubl

I'm really hoping for something a little more impresive than preshott, but from the sounds of it, preshott is going to be freezing compared to smithsdale or whatever its called.

god damn i start the best threads

It may not have any useful info but it's funnier than Jerry Springer fights!!
Move it over to "Speak Freely" and sticky it! As soon as some real info kicks in, you can move it back to its present category :D

This thread would be very useful if Intel read what Diehard Enthusiasts that use to be loyal to them want to name their latest and "greatest" processor AND what equipment is listed in their sigs, when a year or two ago it had Intel equipment in it.

They need to realize that market share isn't guarenteed to them just cause they made the 86 architecture that the majority of the PC's around the world currently run on.

I think they should have gotten a major kick in the pooper when they said 64bit technology for the everyday consumer wasnt where the market was headed..... NOW look at them.

Intel is relying on their fat to stay healthy, if AMD released a processor like Prescott, they would be in a VERY VERY bad situation cause they are smaller.

I'm still an Intel fan, but AMD is lookin Mighty fine these days. I'm glad I saw this situation unfolding In March of 2003 when their stock was only $5.50 a share and I bought a very very very VERY substantial amount of stock in them when i dumped just about all my Intel stock.

Intel needs to get in gear and produce a product that will be competitive with AMD's current top of the line at stock speeds. I remember the First pentiums which had defects yet they still shipped them. I'm hoping they will learn from their past, but Prescott kinda put a huge massive black hole size doubt in Intel's commitment for the best, which is what we demand

I'm thinking Intel's new processor should be named "Intel 2nd" as in 2nd best if they continue on this path of disregard for the enthusiast market. Cause ultimately Enthusiasts drive the high end personal computer market.

yeah, very good post SPL15, very good and your reflecting many people's thoughts here.

Intel is disregarding the highend market where you've got gamers and such, they introduce that overclock lock type thing. That I think was another nail in their coffin. I've seen Intel in the past...not seem all that...great prescott mainly, but when they do something like that...

Intel could care less about a relatively insignificant part of the market running to AMD, oh well. The idea of a multi-billion (trillion?) dollar corporation being in tune with a tiny minority's wants is pretty laughable. Oh well.

I think if this is true, then Intel is extremely arrogant and is bound to get it in the raw arss.

I dont think it is true though, I have a feeling Intel is very ver worried about market share and worried that DELL is considering moving to AMD, and that commercially available enthusiast machines almost exclusively use AMD's top CPU's and the ones that use INTEL get whupped in benches in every magazine no matter how much the magazine sugar coats it.

PC makers listen to consumers, the more people hear AMD is the current best, the more companies will start to produce high end systems based on AMD.

AMD's low end stuff outperforms Celeron systems in just about everyway including cost. A PC systems manufacturer cares about cost/performance ratio more than anyone else in the business. Who would you pick if you were designing an ultra cheap machine to sell for $350 at best buy and circuit city compUSA, etc.

What enthusiasts say is the best and what magazines say is the best trickles down to mainstream. Someone who knows jack about computers can look online or read a magazine to see what is the best. Enthusiast markets in any market are a massive factor in how the industry does business. In every market I've dealt with, Enthusiasts are determining new products and trends more and more every year because of the simple fact that they have massive influence on product sales.

Look at OCZ, there is a reason they surf these forums to talk to enthusiasts, good product recommendations by someone that is knowledgeable boosts sales. AND they can talk directly to enthusiasts to see what they want and then provide it next quarter and then get feedback to improve. Dealing directly with enthusiasts also gives the enthusiast loyalty to that brand because they get a sense of importance when a company directly deals with them and asks them their thoughts.

To show you how much enthusiasts can sway a market, look at the ASUS P4C800 motherboard. it's probably the most well known 478 motherboard out there because of enthusiasts recommending it and getting outrageous clocks on it. I'm pretty dang sure ASUS took note of the P4C800 motherboard sales seeing as how they made 3 different versions (price points) of the same board that I know of and probably more.

Enthusiasts are a major player in just about every consumer market in this day and age. It's pretty sorry that Intel still tries to bully around this industry with it's massive infrastructure, but Times they are a changin.

I guess intel could be relying on enthusiasts depending on how you look at it. They build a super hot running CPU expecting only enthusiasts to buy it and since they are an enthusiast they will cool it a whole lot better than a commercial system builder. Or they read these forums and cross their fingers and hope someone with a tripple cascade runs a 3.8e to 16 bagigahertz and create a wave of publicity and sales.

Maybe Intel Chipzilla is a good name??

Wintel 8088 XP for Windows

Intel 10Core

10 is binary for 2

which would pronounce "Intel tencore"
Would also lead to the productname "tEncore"

Or "Intel Janus" (From the famous Greek two-faced god)
and would also be fitting since Intel is (J)anus.

i like the intel hotplate already :p:
