To compensate for my sadness, my impulses dictated to my physical being that a purchase must be made. An order for a Retail 3500+ Winchester was placed with mWave several moments ago. Hopefully, the leprechauns will be merciful and sprinkle a few spoonfuls of Lucky Charms on the CPU that I so love to hate. Tomorrow (Thursday at the latest) will bring forth yet another 10.5 mile trip to the doors of mWave's Will Call Department.
Please be merciful, you damn leprechauns! :upset: I just want a decent CPU that will be able to push my memory to new heights without having to drop the freakin' multiplier.
EDIT:
charlie - The Force was with your chip. We have never seen another capable of doing similar on air in recent times. ;)
ditto mate, im not sure whats guna replace the current cpu, im thinking of another 3500NC but winchesters are still luring me in (3200 again as its cheap, but with VX seems a little pointless)Quote:

I reset cmos and ddr booster and tried again, windows would get windows corrupted error before welcome screen. Then I swapped to the PDP tccd and tried, same thing happened. THen I set it at 2-2-2-10 200 1:1 and passed memtest 5. I thought cpu controller was finished from running ddr booster all weekend with the VX. Now I'm at stock speeds until I can get this figured out. how can a Prime stable overclock at 2.7 go to stock speeds after 2 days of Glory? I pray to the overclock Gods this will end soon. If I killed the Leprechaun I will just die.
Hmm... I am not sure how good of a thermal conductor marshmallows are, but it's worth a try... Wish you some magically delicious good times! Hazaa! :YIPPIE:Quote:

Read my post agin, I added some sympathy and my current OC problems. I will Pray to the Overclock gods before I go to bed that the person in the mwave warehouse picks a Leprechaun just for you.
If the 3500+ has a Leprechaun in the plastic thing that holds the cpu in place in the retail box. The ones with Leprechauns will fly up to 2.8ghz on pixie dust, but the real test is done by the Ice gods. The Ice gods have problems with the winchesters, because of the mystical silicon which lies within the fairy ring. I would try to obtain the silicon rod from the great mountain of winchester and maybe you will prosper in fullfilling your quest to harness the Leprechaun.

mWave got new stock yesterday, according to Cecilia at the front counter. Don't get me excited now because you know what happens when I get excited. For a moment, I thought you meant that Newegg will have the new revision on Friday. :p:Quote:

I bet you it is a new week atleast, newegg always gets the latest stuff, you and I both know ;)
if you got AIM then IM me at DevilsRejection so we can argue weather you order now or wait for newegg hehe.
good luck conrad!
As always, I wish everyone good luck as well.
Who knows who gets the latter weeks first? It can be anyone. When I bought my Week 39 on November 11th, people were still hyped over Newegg having Week 37s in stock. It can be pretty random. Honestly, I don't care about the week. I just want a good CPU that can handle what my RAM is willing to put out. ;)
same here
you know what really gets me?, that there are so many golden chips and sticks out there that are going to waste:( due to people haveing no clue what they are holding
I think something seriously happened to the Leprechaun. Now it won't even boot into windows at anything over stock regardless of vcore and it's barely stable. Mem is 100% fine. I think this one is finished and who knows if monarch will even take it back? It's oem and I didn't get a warranty. And who knows when new winnie stepping is coming out. I heard January, but that seems a long way down the road.
Screw it. Just but another one. Hahaha. My new game plan is to not send in my 3000+ until the next wave of 90nm CPUs come out, whenever that is. After I receive the replacement for the 3000+, I'll RMA the 3500+ for a new one. I'll sell both CPUs unopened and brand new to offset the cost of my FX-55. :D
If you can find a 130nm 939 for a good price, it's worth a shot. If you're patient, you'll wait. I certainly can't.
well I just emailed monarch about this and I placed the order on 11/19 so I am still within 30 days. Normally I would not do this, but I feel rma can be justified in this case. Cpu barely stable at stock....I just hope it's not the board. If it is, that will be 3 faulty 939 boards in a row!!!
When all else fails, just read my signature, take a deep breath, and go watch some television with a cold one in hand.
:toast:
There's more to life than just overclocking. I just haven't quite figured it out yet. ;)
EDIT:
I hope this doesn't make you feel any worse.

What we’re looking at here is that the 90nm SOI process developed by AMD and IBM runs into a similar set of problems as Intel has. At some point the processor needs to be fed with a higher voltage to enable higher clockspeeds but due to the higher voltage starts leaking power which significantly increases its heat production. That is exactly why IBM fails to ship 3GHz PowerPC processors to Apple, the heat production would simply be too much to properly manage. But there’s more, at these higher voltages the maximum POH, power on hours, of the processor is cut by a significant margin, at a 1.3-volts core voltage it is cut to <50.000 hours, whereas at 1.2-volts it is 100.000 hours. Of course PowerPC processors are not to be compared directly to Athlons, but the process technology used is the same, so the same can be applied to them, explaining exactly why AMD has yet to introduce faster processors based on the 90nm process.
EDIT #2:
I doubt that's 50 hours and 100 hours, but more like 50,000 and 100,000 hours. But I just found it sad considering you've only been playing for less than 100 hours. On a related note, I only played with my VX for about 48 hours before the sun went down on my chip for good.
Maybe I should just play it safe and buy a Newcastle.
EDIT:
Can someone please confirm that AW was the final revision for the Newcastle?
It is the final revision of 939 newcastle.Quote:
