Was there a reply as to what you managed to get it 100% stable at? was it 3ghz or was that enough for some benchies + a screenshot...
All,
Heheheh... yeah, I was wondering what HE'D say when he saw this, lol.
Stable? Well, it's a story of two CPU's. At 24C ambient, with 1.6v I could run sPi 1M @ 2750ish and 8M around 2700.
At 15C ambient, and north of 1.8v, I could run sPi 1M@ 2900 and 8M @ 2850ish. I don't use PRIME95 any more on benching rigs, because if it benches, that IS stability as far as I'm concerned.
Hyper6, mmmmm.... bad dog :D I'm running a 80mm Tornado on it, with a fan controller of course.
Stepping, I was so anxious to get it in that I forgot to look  I got it from Monarch on their 3rd batch, so I'd suspect week >40
All this is with the IHS on it?
yeah, haven't torn it off. Probably won't, cuz when attaching LN2/DI container, too big a chance of cracking core.Quote:

What cooling? If on a VapoLS it may be a MOBO issue.Quote:

that 2.76ghz is acting like a 3.6ghz a64...
There was a huge thread about that guy cheating in 3dmark03 :/ he kept PS Nulling for over 18k and saying it was real...I wouldnt trust his scores :stick:
I also aggree with that. It depends on how you want the system to run.Quote:

Charlie I expected more though from a CPU like that even with good air. The HTT that U use and the memory FSB is too high for such a low score. I think you didn't optimize your OS for the bench, even though its a bench rig. ;)
My score(attached) is the same as yours(although you're closer to 29, yours goes 28-->30, mine goes 29-->30) but you are 50MHz more on CPU and 25MHz more on RAM with more aggressive timings.
The score below is with stock cooler and Balistix PC3200(2.5-2-2-5-1T).
For the record the CPU is a Newcastle, Model 15, Generation 15, Version 0.6
I got one from monarch this past thursday or fri, their last shipping batch. Can do 2.75ghz at about 1.625v or so. 13% over default on 1.3B6 bios. I can't believe it really. Can't wait to throw it in a prommy :). I was gonna get an FX55 but I might just sell my FX53 and get another one of these and hold out for FX57 :)
know whats funny? I had predicted 3GHz from winchesters on air cooling, although I had my own doubts, it turned out I was partially right. not 100% since at room temp you max out at 2.75GHz at 1.6v but with winter air you hit 3GHz. My prediction didnt really specify temp, but obviously colder air yields higher overclocks. However your example comes closer to my prediction than any other example and shows what winchesters should be and are to come. I am selling my newcastle that will 3dmark at 2.62GHz but crashes often while 3dmarking, not 100% stable. Winchester will be mine pretty soon. Ok I agree there are some bad batches of winchesters that wont even do 2.5GHz and some good ones that do near or at 3GHz with above freezing good air cooling. I wont touch your 3GHz but I will be happy to hit 2.8GHz when I get one. off topic: hows that ti4200 of yours overclock? hit 400/800+ yet? :slobber:
and so it begins....

Maybe you should delete this linked thread to reflect your CURRENT line of thinking? (Unless you think it may change again that is.....)http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=338963
uh.. no.Quote:

If you read his posts, you'll see its can only bench at around 2.8GHz, that's not even prime95 stable, so if that CPU hits 2.7-2.75GHz prime95 stable I'd be impressed. 3GHz in my mind is 3GHz Prime95 stable for over 24hours, not "stable enough to get into windows and take screenshot". I'm not saying that the overclock isn't impressive, I'm just saying that we're not at 3GHz just yet.Quote:

Yup, the best 1M sPi was @ 2.83gHz, 15C ambient, not exactly "freezing air".
This isn't a finely tuned benching setup. I set up the cpu/board in a case and loaded WinXP with my broadband hooked up. I've been using it to surf around the house and d/l new drivers and burn some new benching discs. It's NOT a full-blown benching rig, lol.
I have win2Ksp4 here and WinServer 2003 for 3D/Pi benching respectively. Later in the week I'll set up a bench for some REAL overclocking. I just wanted to show what it could do in a case on air with winxp.
A few more notes, my FX-53 (the same one that I ran up to 3441mHz) wouldn't run sPi at 2830.... hehehehehe...
My final goal is about 11 x 310 = 3410mHz, DDR502.... with some 3D north of 3.3gHz....
You know, even the XP-M Bartons were RARE to run 3G+ 24/7 Prime Stable on anything less than 88dB air!

Charlie, are you going to use dry ice or LN2?
Gonna try both. My new container is .675 thick and 1300grams of PURE COPPER...Quote:

BTW, Excellent job Charlie!
