I have a early co stepping amd64 3200+ that does 2.5 on air and water. and a mobile 3200+ cg that does 2.65 stable too, so you are wrong again!:banana:Quote:

also, I dont know where you're getting your info, but a clawhammer 3200+ isnt gonna do 2.5 on air or water.
first of all 62w 3200+ only come in clawhammer CG stepping. (10x200)Quote:

Guys, when it all comes down to it, all the crap about the max a chip will do or the minimum it will do is all speculation. Yeah, we can all compile tons of data and more accurately guess what a chip might be able to perform at, but when it all comes down to it, its pointless to say a chip will for sure top out at 2.5 ghz or that it wont make it too say 2.2 ghz in the first place. You buy a chip and all you know for sure is that it will do the specs it was sold for ( unless its somehow broken). And obviously, it'll probably go higher, but ( and i certainly am not intending to point any fingers or flame anyone ) it seems like too often there are posts telling someone exactly what they are gonna overclock to or exactly what it could at least be. sometimes i wonder how many people get bad information because they trust all the crap that is sometimes said.
so here is my answer for your original question airjetline....i think for what you wanna do you should get a dtr. the cache certainly has an important increase and they seem to overclock well. mine certainly does. the newcastle chips from what i have seen do tend to overclock probably to a higher frequency, but as far as is if its enough to beat out something with a larger cache depends on how fast of a cpu you end up getting. and who knows, maybe a dtr will hit 3 ghz on air and do what seems to be unimaginable and maybe it wont even overclock at all. its the chance you have to take in this hobby
