this is my 2nd vdimm mod
I did the 3.3 to vdimm mod on my k8ns nonpro.
One of my friends has a k8ns pro and i joined the 2nd 3.3v pin on the back of his mobo to the vdimm cap. After which his pc wouldn't post. It would turn on and then off within another second, even before the boot screen would show up.
Has anyone done the vdimm mod the k8ns pro. I would really like to see this mod done on his board. Seeing as we have similar cpus ram and boards. + he has 2 2x256mb kits of BH-5 that are good for 240 2-2-2-5.
Another one my mates can't get is OCZ DDR booster to work in his k8nsxp
All three boards are s754 btw.
I find it extremely ironic that both of their boards don't like vdimm mods and are targeted at overclockers and mine took it like a :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana: and has worked fine since day one :)
edit btw removing the wire fixed the problem and seeing as it posted and turned off im assuming over current protection or over voltage protection.

No this exact mod will not work but a very similar one will.
I have modded a K8NS (nonpro) and it worked 100% fine. You just need to make sure that your vdimm is set to +.2 in the bios all the time

Does this bypass the onboard memory controler or is it still possible to toast it with the mod? And whats the max Vcore on this board?
Max vcore is 1.7 so its also gonna need a voltmod if you are using anything better than air cooling.

There rae two capasitors in parrellel behind the vdimm regulator, you just join the 3.3v rail to the +ve leg of either cap.
Just make sure its the 3.3v rail and also make sure its the +ve leg :)

Are you asking if this bypasses the onboard mem controller on the cpu, or the Vdimm controller on the motherboard?
The 3.3v = Vdimm does bypass the Vdimm controller on the motherboard....and thats the case for any platform (Intel, AMD, A64). And by bypass I mean that it forces the voltage high, but the controller is still in the loop. This will generally also force Vtt high in most newer boards.
What voltage does the IN cpu memory controller get?
how is this board? is it better than the dfi, cause its a lot cheaper. one thing i didnt like was the way the legacy connections are on the mobo and the new stuff is on headers

My last post was prob a little misleading.
The Vtt I was referring to has to remain at 1/2 of Vdimm output...so doing the 3.3v = Vdimm should automatically force Vbt/Vtt to track at 1/2 properly. On most boards.

umm arround those speeds i need to set the ldt multiplier to 3x :) (which is good right upto 290 or something btw ;p )
also make sure you set your vdimm to the max setting in thebios ie +0.2V or whatever it is.
Also make sure that the BH-5 are compatible and capable to overclock at 1T with that mobo ;)
Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get it past 219 fsb on my memory. I've been to get up to 340 HTT, it's just that the memory isn't getting the volts. My RAM has reached 260 MHz 1:1 when I use the OCZ booster. Unfortunately, the booster only works for Super PI calculations at these speeds, and my RAM won't go past 219 MHz at any voltage for 3D benches. I'll have to check with my multimeter to see the actual voltages. Does anybody know where the contact points are to read VDIMM?
Edit: Sorry for the noobish type question, but how do you change the 1T/2T setting in BIOS? I've tried with the A64 tweaker, but it wouldn't enable 2T.
Bios, ctrl+F1, advanced settings ;), there you can adjust timings and all. Down the tab you'll see xxxxx something - 2T, it has Auto / Disable / Enable, set to disable and then u're on with 1T.
Thanks again for the help everyone, I finally got the mod working! It turns out that for some strange reason, the vmod didn't effect DIMM 1 and 2, but worked for slot 3. At first, it wouldn't post at all when the memory stick was in slot 3, no beeps or anything. Then I remember seeing someone say that his wouldn't post higher than 3.1V with the mod. So I just set the powerstream 3.3V pot lower, and now it works! I just had to crank it up some more when it was in windows to get it over 3.1V. super-pi stable: 250fsb @ 2-2-2-5 1:1 @ 3.4V so far. :)
Edit: It seems to boot at over 3.1 V every time now.
