also I also found out more about new Prescott steppings.
They're bringing D0 stepping which should both make Prescotts run cooler and make 'em faster.
the codes: C0 --- D0
2.8a (533): SL7D7 --- SL7E2
2.8e (800): SL79K --- SL7E3
3.0e (800): SL79L --- SL7E4
3.2E (800): SL7B8 --- SL7E5
All 3.4E's will be using D0
Intel Pentium 4 processor with 1MB L2 Cache on 90nm Process Technology, will undergo following changes for C-0 to the D-0 core processor stepping change:
CPUID will change from 0F33h to oF34h
D-0 will incorporate planned power optimizations to enable speed enhancements
D-0 is pin compatible with C-0

generally, the 2.8 prescotts are not very good overclockers from my readings. the 3.0, and 3.2 models are much better.Quote:

My 2.8 had no problem hitting 4.2Ghz @ 300FSB under my mach1.
I also know about the new stepping, waiting on new part to arrive.
12c difference between my Max3 and P4C800 with the same chip. My P4C800 overvolts and the Max3 doesnt. Max 3 cannot get close to 300FSB = no good for 2.8e @ high end overclocking
Fugger, doesnt the abit mobos have had unusual higher than normal temperature readings than other boards? People have been reporting higher cpu temps on Abit mainboards.
can't wait to see the results on new prescott steppings.
yep, I was also thinking the throttle duty cycle was at 100% all the time causing the higher temps.
OK...
So far mixed news.
1) She's NOT DOA!!!
2) Only multi 14x and 15X are available :(

Hey thats what I was going to say. Anyway good luck Charlie :cord:Quote:

Thats wierd. Have you tried a different motherboard?Quote:

FUGGER,
What's the verdict? Do ES sometimes have limited Multi's??
C
I cannot change multiples at all on my Max3 with the 2.8ES stepping 1
extended CPUID info has been a problem in this area
From all the pics I have seen of the guys with ES 3.0/3.2 Prescotts- only the 14-16 mults have been available.Quote:

I think these prescott D's will be like the classic TbredA-TbredB thing. Anyways 15x300-4500 . Whats the max FSB on your board before it poops out? You got any 2.4C's to try to see ur boards max? Just an idea and good luck! :toast: Cant wait to see the results and really cant wait to see these new steppings in dry ice!

OOoo looking at this thread with interest, particulary the dry ice part.
My guess with the Prescott ES's is that Intel is making as few choices of multipliers available as possible, probably to make then less attractive to the people Intel feels aren't worthy of having the luxury of unlocked multipliers (us enthusiasts).
Of course there are no Prescotts available below 2.8, so Intel likely figures there is no need for any lower multipliers than 14x. The 2.8A ES may be unlocked downward from 21x though or may be locked at 21x, as there are no others 133 FSB Prescott P4's.
Which would be on par with Intel's way of thinking...
At least intel turns a profit every year unlike another chip maker.Quote:

Mine also has "A4" on my Prescott 3.2 ES.Quote:

Yours also has "A4" where mine says "phillipines"
2.8/800/1M

QK34ES A4
I can only use Multi (14x to 16x) as reported by CPU-Z.
When I open Clockgen, the system reboots....
any ideas??
C
Did you download the latest version?Quote:

I download clockgen for IC7 just 2 days ago and installed it without any problems. I didn't overclock using clockgen as yet but I did click on the get values button without any problems.
Good luck there Charlie, can't wait to see your result.
I also got a 3E ES. I also did a little Air OC write up here. Not very good by the Xtremesys standard. :D
BTW, mine also has "A4" on it and it say stepping 3 on CPU-Z.

OOOHHHH!!!!! I know he didn't!!! ;):D
