did any of you mod the chipset voltage? anybody?
The chipset runs straight off the 3.3.
u sure? ive read about it and the abit kt266a board was the only one with a pin to raise the chipset voltage. default was 3.15 iirc.
Could be wrong, but thats what i've seen stated before..
maybe its bound to the 3.3v rail so when i raise it i raise the chipset voltage?... i couldnt boot my kt266a board with my modded psu (14v 5.8v 3.7v) maybe because ´there was a chipset overvolt protection... damn those overvolt protections!!!! :upset:
whats the idear of limiting the a7n8x to 1.85vcore and then build in an extra overvolt protection that kicks in at 2.15v if its not just to pi55 off ocers... :\
lol
Wheres my WCPUID 225mhz fsb shot on my KR7A... :|
Damn im a idiot i erased that from orb also :\
wow crazy high fsbs. lucky guys too. I had an asus kt266a that did only 150fsb then an abit kt400 that did 190 max, wasnt even prime95 stable. could never get fast cpu decode enabled or it wouldnt even post :( how many marks was that worth anyway? I seem to have bad luck with high fsb, my nf7-s only does like 222fsb stable, 229 semistable and its a revision 2.0 im gonna try the L12 mod for 235+ fsb
Lost my screenies in my last format....... I was able to take my 8K3A to 205 at the highest, 200 if I wanted it to be stable.
Yeah i had a 8k3a+.... pos, did only 202mhz fsb...
does pci bite?
Yeah I've had the same experience with my abit kt266a vlad. I can get up to 168fsb 100% stable, with 170~ being pretty close with 2.85v, but I need to mod my psu as its undervolting a little, and try upping my vdimm to 3v or so as well as better nb cooling, see where she goes :D
Hmm... i pumped 3.8V through my KR7...
Yeah, I would assume that would have had to do with the chipset and agp voltage (which are both tied to vdimm). I would be worried about going above 3.2v or so because of so many people burning out their agp controllers doing that back in the day on kg7s, kr7as and kx7s. berkut, you need to get aim or something, or tell me where you are on IRC so we can talk more :D I miss the crazy phase change convos man
so the agp voltage is bound to vdimm as well? whats the max vdimm i should try then? i will be using a g4mx wich can take a lot of vagp, but i dont want to kill it. this is the miracle g4mx from gainward that does 400(!) core 700 memory absolutely stock.
IIRC, the Vagp and Vdimm mods were different on the VIA boards. Didn't MrIcee discuss the care in which the Vagp needed to be adjusted in order NOT to kill the board in the kx-7 thread(s) on these forums back in 2003, maybe 2002?
vagp and agp controller voltage are different, correct? I believe higher vdimm raises the controller voltage, not the actual vagp (which there is a mod for afaik), in which case it wouldnt affect the card at all, just burn out the mobo, or maybe just the agp slot. I think its all in MrIcee's kg7/kx7/kr7a vmod thread, could be wrong though.
With the agp controller being part of the northbridge, would agp controller voltage (for lack of a better name) be the same as the chipset voltage? Seems likely right?
As for how much is too much, I think MrIcee said 3.2-3.3vdimm was the safe limit.
Hi
If i rise my Vdimm on my 8K3A+ to 3,2 V the Vchip. and Vagp
will rise too ?
Did I understand it correctly ?
@ Nice Results at All !
nope, if you rise vdimm the agp controller voltage rises, vagp remains at the same level.
so 3.3vdimm is still ok without modding vagp? or 3.3v vdimm can only be obtained with a vagp mod or the agp slot/agp controller will burn out?
saaya: I believe 3.2-3.3v was the safe max, without any other modding. I'm considering doing a vdimm mod to my kr7a and trying about 3v to see if my max fsb goes up any. I feel bad about giving this BH5 so much more than it needs, but its not like a little voltage will hurt it or anything ;x
GravdiggA: I dont know anything about the 8k3a+ but if it uses the same setup for vdimm/vchip then yes. play with it and see what happens :P
when i had a kt333 the highest fsb i could get was 185mhz because of my hardrive corrupting! what hardrives are you guys running that will run insane pci speeds 24/7?!?! cant these high pci speeds kill dvd and cdrw drives as well?
im using a ibm deathstar 20gb. fine up to 180fsb... i just bought a ide card wich is supposed to run at 66mhz pci speed, will check that later.
untweaked yes you are rightQuote:

but not my 8k3a
only a tweaked kx7 could match it clock for clock
its like my 8rda stock , it doesnt match nf7 , but wpcredit tweaked :) abit bios kick ass thats for sure always have alway will
8k3a was a great mobo couldnt go as far as the 8rda didnt have agp/pci lock and not get higher performance in benchs
but via chipsets feel more responsive , lol
I have a KT333 sat at home for a friends rig, with an AthlonXP 1800+, the tasty stepping, he doesn't want to overclock, psssh, but I'm insisting on it, am I going to be able to get this thing up to, say 2GHz?
