Charlie everybody has said that it will be slower clock for clock than a northwood.
I think you're just still sore about the titans getting romped and you're taking out your frustration on legit information :)

I'm neither an Intel or AMD fanboy.
That being said, I wonder how many of these 'benchmarks' are being run with the L1 disabled. Probably quite a few.
And, do we 'know' for sure that the heat dissipation is 100watts?
lol...Quote:

I thought everyone said it will be slower clock for clock than the Northwood EE...but considerably faster than NW 512K...
I guess we'll all know for sure on the 2nd when all these awful NDA's expire. Everything until then is just speculation IMO.
BTW,
Pat's better win... I made a considerable wager...let's call it my "3.4gHz Prescott fund"

Dont you worry. I have no idea how the panthers even MADE it to the superbowl, but the pats are gonna skin those cats :)
I gave 7 1/2 pts, though :D

if the prescotts are no better than northwoods, alot of people wont be getting those except xtreme overclockers for the MHz and the average joe who has no clue about computers and only cares about MHz

I dont think so
The process is keeping the scaling back, not the core logic.
For all we know NW could do worse.
And i believe the inq meant 3.8 GHz on air
to get anywhere with Prescott, clock speed wise, they will need a core revision and not a small one
in 3D stuff i dont see Prescott outperforming northwood. It doesnt OC higher either, at this point the 3.4 NW outclocks the 3.2 Prescott easily
afaik prescotts problems had to do a lot with it beeing "more efficient"
the netburst architecture with its long pipeline is only performing well when the pipeline is full and busy, prescotts are using their pipeline more efficiently AND are using a more advaced type of hyper threading wich again makes it more efficient. afaik the pipelines have a few points that get hotter than the rest of the pipeline, so called hot-spots. prescott has more problems with those hot-spots as its more "efficient" wich leads to the pipeline stages having less time to "rest"
i dont know if the enlengthening of the pipeline was a workaround for the poor performing first prescotts or had been planned all the time, but i dont get why intel went with a new pipeline arrangement. i think they should have kept the basic arrangment/length of the nw pipeline instead of adding some stages... now the internal pipeline timings are all messed up and the better branch prediction and better hyper threading can only compensate the loss in efficiency in most cases.
i hope i can chat a bit with fugger in february, id really like to know more about how cpus work... guess hes not allowed to tell me though :D
If the Panthers can get pressure on Brady, it'll be a tough game for the Pats. Everyone underestimates the Panthers anyway.Quote:

First i will say: Sorry all Intel freaks
I have to laugh! :D Slower then NW and more heat - can it be better ?! :p:
I think that AMD is going to have a great time :)
Blah, I would wait untill we see REAL benches with professional people before posting things like ^ that.
IF prescott sucks then both AMD and INTEL are §§§§ed untill AMD gets that new socket out [ same goes for Intel ]. When that new AMD socket is released i might wanna do some 64-bit action.
PTK
I think the new prescotts will be pulling 5 gigs pretty soon.
Hmm, I'm not sure if the i875,i865 chipsets accompany the prescott very well. Socket 478 is really a makeshift mobo (a temporary solution for prescott). The real potential of prescott should be revealed in LGA socket 775 imo. There you will find the Intel i915 Grantdale chipset which will support DDRII 533, BTX, and PCI express.
Also Happy^ these are only prelim's. AMD is already trying to get a new chip out that wont keep blowing up. Ask anyone who is oc'ing the new 64 how many RMA's they have had.
Marine_1 ino, and i have some problems my self.
But nothing can change that Intel had to make longer pipes!
 why would amd be fcked up if intel releases a crappy cpu?Quote:

and the new socket/chipset is a diferent thing! if prescott should perform better on a new chipset its the extra performence of the chipset thats making it faster, not the cpu itself is getting faster.
i think the competition between amd and intel hasnt been as balanced as it is now for years. both have cheap and great performing cpus out.
I ment that either is a upgrade that i personally would even think about. The socket change is coming too soon on AMD and if prescots are worthless [ and i still think that they might be good ] then its time to change the mobo anyways. I had kind of AMD then intel, again AMD etc.. so guessing its time to check out AMD again... i usually changed sides if i had to change my motherboard [ oh, just remembered.. i did one VIA - nforce jump during the last time i had AMD.. but anyways ].Quote:

Ok, im bit tempted to test those 64-bit AMD's but gonna wait it out... since my rig isnt that bad either.
Now if they only would get that PCI-X mobos and graphics cards ready for my next big upgrade.
PTK
Ps. Just trying so hard not to order any more PC HW. :D
hehe same here :D i'll have a hard time when 939 systems get released
