this doesn't feel like a "tock" upgrade though. not compared to 775 -> i7 anyway. Maybe I'm just expecting too much these days. I'll be waiting for the 8 core chips to come out before I upgrade my 775, I think.

Nah i believe that was only with a non "K" chip, the intel H series do overclock any chip but the unlocked chips obviously OC alot higher because you have the multi to play with not just the blck..Quote:

We have 2 chipsets:
H67-allows use of IGP, no multiplier overclocking.
P67-no IGP, allows multiplier overclocking.
We have 2 chips: (there are more of course but I'm assuming we all want max cores here)
2600-HD 2000 IGP, multiplier locked.
2600K-HD 3000 IGP, multiplier unlocked.
So if I want the ability to OC via multiplier, I need 2600K + P67 which forces me to pay Intel not only for an IGP I can't use at all, but for the UPGRADED IGP that I can't use at all.
If I want the higher performance IGP, I need 2600K + H67 which forces me to pay Intel for an unlocked multiplier CPU which I can't use at all.
Further, according to Intel, the 2600K does not support virtualization while the 2600 does.
This isn't a factor for me but I imagine it will be for some.
Unless I'm reading wrong (which I'm hoping is the case) then it strikes me that the upper-level Intel management folks have screwed the pooch pretty badly here.
In my version of reality the HD 3000 IGP should be in the 2600 chip for use with H67 and the HD 2000 IGP should be in the 2600K chip (actually the IGP should be removed entirely and replaced with cores ala Clarkdale/Lynnfield) for P67.
Or we're missing a chipset.
Again, please correct me if I'm wrong.
As it stands, I'll be sitting this one out until I get a better handle on what's going on here.
