I found that when I flashed the card:
WFFLASH NM A380U.rom
It backs up your current BIOS before it flashes, its part of the program (saves it as saveold.rom or something).
Before I did this I grabbed the 5900U BIOS from leadtek just to be safe as I knew that would work, and set it up on a disk but I never needed it.
Haven't run benchmarks yet other than just for testing, it was 5AM when I did this so I got some rest. If I can beat my high scores it will be a worthwhile effort.
Alright here's the lowdown:
1. There is NO loss of performance per clock. The only thing causing this is the use of a different driver. Results are identical framerates with driver 44.03 from 5900NU to 5950U tested in 3DM2001SE Nature benchmark.
2. Clocks with 44.03 are the same, I am able to bench at 535/965 on stock cooling. My previous high clocks were only a mere 490/900.
Overall, a highly recommended modification that only takes a few minutes of your time. There are absolutely no drawbacks whatsoever.

Well ive done the flash and it worked fine. Gone from an FX5900LX leadtek to an FX5950 Ultra.
Rivatuner detects the clock speeds properly as per a 5950, but im getting little to no boost in 3dmarks. Still only getting 16750 or so @ 200 x 11.5. Seems far too low to me - I was expecting around 20k...? Ive even gone to the 44.03 drivers from the 52.16, but again no difference in points.
Gonna try it on my intel later today.....

44.03 is a very large difference from the newer drivers, just look at the Nature score.
Mine is like 110fps vs 155fps, its huge.
Well its around 17750 on the intel rig (12 x 255 1:1 @ 2.5/3/3/6), which is a bit more like what I was expecting, but still quite low.
Bearing in mind my previous best with the 5900LX was 17073 (using a 2.6c but @ 250), it seems a distinctly underwhelming improvement given the 75mhz gpu increase and 250mhz mem increase (400/700 compared to 475/950). Ill test more with the 2.6c in tomorrow.
Opinions as to whether the score seems right?

personally-this mod isn't for me.
I like my card competing in the 5900 NU area-not the 5950.
my cards clocked at 650/1060, I think if I remove the IHS it may get alittlre more outta it.
plus I am scared that it may overvolt my card.
my cards already so outta spec that I just don't want to see another .1 volts hit my card ;)
Well yeah if its already volt modded this is completely pointless.
But for me, it was a nice boost to my clocks.
Now 3D stable at 545/985
550 core will finish Nature but fail in Dragothic Low for some reason. 550 also gets through about 3/4 of 3DM03.
Used a Dynatron 1U heatsink, temps went down 10-15c but core clock increase was only 10mhz.
OCZ Copper BGA Ramsinks allowed clock increase from 965 to 985.
Not bad for an air cooled 5900NU. But it wouldn't have been possible without this BIOS :D.
Increase from 490/900 to 545/985 increased 3DMark2001 Nature from 149fps to 157fps. Does this sound like it scaled accordingly?
I was expecting a higher gain from the huge clock increase. Haven't tested 3DM03 score yet.

New clocks 545/985 boosted me up to 7281 3DMark03 but can't publish due to server maintenence.
My previous best was 490/900 for 6835 marks.
4200 point boost to Aquamark too.

Nature increase from 148.8 to 156.8fps, but all my other runs were low, i'll have to do a reformat if I want some decent FPS in the system tests again, messy OS.
I would maybe estimate 250-350 points or so overall...not a lot.

Is there any truth to the rumor that flashing to a 5950 relaxes the memory timings somewhat - hence the lack of decent boost in 3dmk ? Also Soulburner do you have any trouble using the TV out once flashed?
It might but I never tested it at the same clocks. I am able to achieve higher scores in the end though so I don't really care whether its slower clock for clock or not.
Haven't tested TV.
