Then there is another factor that throws a curveball.....how strong the mem controller is.....think becasue your chips has good NB it has a strong IMC?

Best you can hope for is 2 out of 4, rare to have 3 out of 4.

For benching the best you can do is know your hardware and use whatever chips suits a particular benchmark best :)

Good, but If you can afford as many chips as you need :). It seems I have a balanced chip - strong NB, good cores, and the IMC...well, I can run those settings in the signature 24/7, but can't stabilize DDR-2000. However, with the latest beta bios for my mobo it was possible to run that frequency of the memory, but still not stable. Maybe CHIV could help?

Same here on ambient water. It barely scales after 1.45V on the CPU-NB. The weaker part of my CPU seems to be the IMC, or it's the board fault, I don't know.

I've been doing some stability testing tonight myself and man my NB is getting warm (>63c)... I'm not sure it's a problem but I don't like it... :shakes:

I wish EK would hurry up and release that mobo block for the CH4.

Dave I’m in the same boat as Randi, as I don’t have any software to check the NB temp. I tried the NB volts higher but it didn’t help with more speed.

Leeghoofd I was wanting to see how high the auto setting in the bios would take the NB voltage. When I increased the NB speed to 3000MHz the bios auto setting jumped to 1.5V but I didn’t notice it getting any higher as I increased the NB speed higher. I did try setting the voltage manually but again I wanted to see how high auto would take it.

I tested for several hours today and found the core speed to max out about 4.6GHz when testing 3DMark06 using chilled water. That’s about 150-175MHz lower than my old chip. There may be a setting that I didn’t try, one that the chip really needs to gain the core speed but so far I haven’t found it? Even being hurt the old chip is still better in 3D06 than this new chip (at least using my chilled water CPU cooling. :(

The link speed is up on this test. 3DMark06 CPU @3274.1 MHz 13x251.9 NB=3525.8 Memory= 2014MHz 7-7-7-18 (Chilled water CPU only)

You've definitely got a good CPU NB there. I'd take the multi up to 20 at stock volts or a bit more if necessary,
and burn that puppy in for 24 hours. With a little time it should reach as high or higher than your previous chip,
but with better efficiency/performance with your better NB speeds.

the binning i am referring to can't be done on air ;)

IMC has to be good with NB cranked...I can do 2000 on any chip...not stable ...and even less so when NB is cranked.

Can't tell how balanced a chip is till you are at an absoute temp and end of voltage scaling range.....

Then is where you find the huge variance between cores and chips......

Some chips doing 6.7 on 1 core and only 6.3 on another.
