I am thinking of picking up a 9800 pro and was curious how much real world improvement I would see over my 9500 pro that I have softmodded and running at 360 core 312 memory clock. I play Shadowbane, Call of Duty, and plan to pick up more first person shooters in the future.
from my own experience all my VIVO type cards had crazy stock cooling GPU core clocks compared to the non-vivo cards
@ Macci, how do you hook your CPU cooler on your GPU???? Ive my cooler on it since 3 days, and its hook by scottch tape...LOL. Ive no screw fit in my holes.
I drilled holes to the base of that P4 retail sink. then tapped em and mounted it to the card with screws.

macci do dou have Zalman 7000 Cu too? How it's perform? How far goes cpu with it and temperatures?
damn man! There is something wrong me with me. I have a VGA silencer on my new 9800pro with Tweakmonster ram sinks, and I can't hit 415 GPU without getting snow in drago. It's a built by ATI card that should be clocking better don't you think?
its like CPUs, they have good and poor

It's not like I am some noob who doesn't know how to OC. I just can't seem to get good clocks on these ATI cards. My gf3ti200 was over 10K and my GF4Ti4200 was over 16K. Not mind blowing, but a nice OC to say the least on air and no vmods.
I guess I need to pull out the ol' soldering iron and slap on some vmods to get this thing running!

Have you all tested your Oc cards with 03mark using nature test??? I bet you will all have huge amount of snow everywhere.
I run my hercules 9800 pro 440mhz with a copper cpu heatsink with 0 artifacts in nature but when set 460mhz I'd get alot of snow so there are alot of people in here who just report their max stable oc numbers as long as it doesnt crash but they dont mention anything about snow. I wouldn't consider that your max oc. Just my opinion...
We all know that, our overclocks are artifact free.
my HSF is working very very very good, its very usefull. My GPU is very cool now, i feel no heat when i touche the reverse now(before it was almost burning my finger) and my HSF is cool like ever!!!! that fan move alot of air, or should i say wind...LOL. the only think i have to do on it now its some RAMsinksQuote:

artifact are coze by RAM clock ( for me) 365 is the max whitout artifact, but i will buy new RAMsink.Quote:

I'm not talking about ram artifacts or heat artifacts but the most common artifacts when u push the core too much. It looks like small white pixels or snow but no tearing of any sort. I can push my core up to max 490mhz with hercules tweaker and not crash once in 3dmark but not without huge amount of Snow. I think it has to do with voltages because when i did a softmod on the vgpu and raised it up to 1.9vgpu it elimanted all the snow. Now i just run it default voltage because u bearly notice any diff in games from 440mhz to 500mhz but it does benefit benches however. I just simply do not believe its possible to get 500mhz on air with no vmods and be 100% artifact free.Quote:

Dr. maybe you are on to something? Maybe thats why my clocks are so much lower than everyone elses? I start to get snow at 416mghz on the core, which is still very low, but the snow is almost non existent. I mean it's just a few here or there. It is still there so I do not claim that to be a stable OC. I OC mainly for games to play better so any snow or artifacts don't help. I do like to bench though too. I need to try out this card on a full run as high as it will go without crashing, snow or not. I am curious as to the clocks.
BTW is there any ATI tweaker better than any other. I use either Rage 3D or Rad Clocker. I had always used Riva Tuner on my Geforce cards with great results. I should try it again, as I see Macci is using it, so it must be good for ati's.
