I will probably be grabbing a WB for my 470 soon, I don't think my stock heatsink can be fixed by lapping. After pulling it off it's clear that only the two outside heatpipes, on opposite sides, make contact. Putting a straight edge across the bottom confirmed this.

I did attempt to sand it smooth, however I got to the point where I thought I'd be going through the heatpipe at any second - not good!

You should try to understand the stuff you read before you try to teach ppl.. Olive oil works just fine if you can keep a thin layer on IHS :rolleyes:

The only reason we use paste is to remove air pockets - that's all. The performance of the stock HS is so low compared to the performance of metals that the target is metal-to-air and not metal-to-metal. The paste it self is there to fill the microscopic gaps in the metal / cope with heat and cold cycles while sticking to the HS.

Regular toothpaste will work just as well - for a while :p:
