The things I would do for a pair of X5680's.
I'm certainly tempted to max out the credit card on a pair of L5640's though. Hopefully the W555 wont be to expensive otherwise I wont be able to stretch to it.

I wouldn't take out your credit card just yet ;)
As for the memory and QPI support I was wondering the same things. It is different on different places of their site.
I don't want to rain on their parade, let them have their day in the sun. You'll all know soon enough. I am smiling big time today.
John i hope you guys come with some relay good stuff.
I typically enjoy reading your (technical) posts, but :
and your next post are unambiguous: their stuff is nice, ours is better but we are not going to tell you how or what except to wait. Theres another company doing that and its not getting them much praise from the community i think?
giev more tech less marketing talk:up:
(edit: my bad grammar)
So did Intel make a 32nm quad core die or is it a disabled hex?
What we need now that GT is retail is some leaked results of Thuban :) Intel can't do much now that parts are in retail. Or I should say intel can't react as fast as pre-launch.
SAP 2-tier result

I sure hope you'll be able to keep that smile when your customers will confront you with the above numbers.
Even MC can't stand a chance at 2S given that it will clock well bellow the 8439SE Opterons.
MM...the time..itsa makin tick-tock..
edit: hoping for lots of competition, will take the prices down to level one can start to dream
Saaya why are you bringing me down with that price chart? No hex-core CPU's for under a grand (well +/- $50)??! As much as I do really want to put a pair of those beauties to work in an SR-2, that is just too much. At least it was a nice dream, and who knows maybe they'll release something more affordable around Q4/Q1 2011.
I can't promise overclockable.
These are server parts. When you overclock processors, sometimes 2+2=5. Not a problem if you are playing a game, but can be a problem if you are relying on it for real work.
Makes we wonder about people overclocking their folding machines. You are getting more work done, but is there some type of error checking that compares results so there is redundancy of data?
But cheaper and higher perf is possible
I haven't overclocked my Istanbul rig though I know a slight increase is possible. I just don't need higher frequency as I don't use it for gaming however that will be a concern when building my next system so a higher frequency would be nice.
Still though if magnycours is cheaper and higher perf then I would definately be interested in updating my Istanbull rig in the future, even though it would require a brand new motherboard.
