Or in other words: Ferrite is iron. Ferrite can also refer to certain iron compounds. It's that second part I learned today. The first part I originally stated was still correct. That's the definition I remembered from Chemistry way back in the day.

Well, with that said I'm sure we can all now agree that whatever the core material may be, it has nothing to do with the steel covers rusting. :D

The key point is that ferrite can't rust! I too am not sure of the negative effects of rusted chokes, but I certainly wouldn't buy a rusty car or a rusty gardening tool. Although, my gardening tools are all a little rusty now and even my car has rust after years of use. You just don't expect to buy a new product only to find rust!
