I have my 2D clocks set to 400 which I think solved this issue. :para:
Ok I think it is ATI's x64 driver that is more the problem.
I am now dual booting with windows7 x64 and x86.
I get the vertical lines and freeze in x64 after playing for 5 minutes to 1 hour. and every game ends up like this.
with x86(32bit) I played about 7 games yesterday totaling about 10 hours of game play no freezing at all, except it froze for about 5 seconds and made a funny looping sound and then game continued working but the mouse pointer has a ghost of it self now and is 3 times bigger and even after exiting the game I had to reboot to get the courser back to normal.
wow i get alot of these issues!!
I have a problem with cursor size sometimes, and i get the weird stutter loop thing, which most of the time locks up then i get the stripes, but sometimes the loop just goes away.
How do you set your 2d clock to 400?
thanks!
ohh and 9.12 don't seem to fix things
So in other words we cant clock past the CCC limits or this can happen as it runs in 3d at high clocks? any way around this? if u dont install CCC maybe that would help?
But what about when/if the cards at stock? just a driver issue? or what
Dragon
I get the stripes at default gpu clocks usually caused by an unstable system overclock. It happens normally while running blend or linx, but has happened while web surfing.
Once again how can use your 2D clocks? I cannot figure out how to do this in afterburner.
thanks
Go to CCC → Options → Profiles → Profiles Manager
Create a new profile and click Save. Then close that window and go this directory:
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\ATI\ACE\Profil es
Open the file with Notepad and add this to it:
Quote:
<Feature name="CoreClockTarget_0">
<Property name="Want_0" value="40000" />
<Property name="Want_1" value="60000" />
<Property name="Want_2" value="85000" />
</Feature>
<Feature name="MemoryClockTarget_0">
<Property name="Want_0" value="120000" />
<Property name="Want_1" value="120000" />
<Property name="Want_2" value="120000" />
</Feature>
yeah i also do have this strips problem when ever i run LINX
For all having this problem:
Have you used AMD gpu clock tool to FORCE the 3d clocks/voltages in the desktop? Please get the 5870 supported version and do this and tell me if you ever get the stripes again, whether in linpack or any game.
edit: I can't spell correctly...
The profile helped get rid of my issues in L4D2.
Have you tried 9.12 hotfix?
I experience those blueish stripe screens but it's not limited to 5870, it happens on 8800gt, 4870x2, 9800gx2, hd3850 as well on x58 systems - the problem only rears it's ugly head when i'm pushing a bclock frequency or borderline max i7 cpu ht enabled overclock for 3d benching or when I have inadequate vcore, cpu vtt, vdimm or ioh voltage applied to an overclocked setting. Also happens when you push GPU/GPU MEM clocks too far.
i thought these strips are related to system memory problem & its not like that when im gaming ,but in game it does pause for 4-5 sec & continues .......
or its related to windows 7 ?
setting a high 2d profile seems to help
Interesting thread. I've only had my 5770 for 2 days, and this happened to me when I tried to use ATi's built in overdrive tool.
When I press the 'detect maximum clocks' button or move the slider and press to 'test custom clocks', I get stripes. But, if I press 'Esc' it goes away.
It has so far ONLY happend when using overdrive.
BTW, I'm not using Win 7. I'm using Vista Ultimate X64.
Hmmm..Interesting thread about this issue over at [H]. Damn, good thing I have to wait a month before I was getting a 5970..omg!!!

SixFootDuo:
Last week, I called Newegg to try and RMA my nearly $400 dollar XFX 5870. Since it had been nearly two months I was told I would have to deal directly with XFX. I was extremely frustrated with all the constant crashing etc etc.
The guy on the other side of the phone also added that, "off the record" a rep with ATI had spoke with a few of the people there at Newegg and had told them, the problem is very wide spread and that one of the things they are looking at is a small part / component of the video card that is rapidly degrading out of spec.
I then contacted the only other email I had of someone that worked in the hardware sector, a guy I became friends with who works at XXXXX. Yes, I know, they make mice. But I thought it was a shot since he is a very hardware and performance oriented and has and still does attend many trade shows, lan parties etc. So I emailed him and received a response this morning.
He basically confirmed what I had heard from the Newegg customer rep. But where the CSR at Newegg said that could be one of the problems, my friend said they had heard it "was" the problem. To me, this would explain the same problem everyone is having but at the same time how random it appears. I am no expert.
What really bothers me is why HardOCP or one of the other top news sites doesn't get an offical comment for us from ATI since they all clearly have friends at ATI.
Why hasn't ATI come out and talked about this problem.
Eyeinfinity is cool and all but honestly, I'm looking at Nvidia as my new home. I am currently trying to get rid of my 5870 card. Not only that, I canceled my plans to purchase 3 new 32" LCDs for my Eyeinfinity setup.
And, to anyone curious, yes I reformatted, CPU or GPU or MEMORY was not overclocked. Many fresh installs between two different machines.... end result, gray vert lines crash screen hardlock. Basically, the same thing that has been happening to thousands of other issues. I've had nearly 100 crashes to date.
Why is ATI letting this continue? Why haven't they come out and talked about this huge huge problem?
^^^ oh my god im also a sufferer ! ......
I used to have a 295 ,sold it saved some cash for the next part of nvidia.In between bought a 5770 just to keep it as backup........
I was also having 4870 512 ,it was the worst card i ever had never overclocked well dead after a month of no overclocking thankfully RMAed it....
this ati will never be out with good drivers & we are the sufferer's.F**k ATI ,♥ nvidia
using a 5770 here and it only happens when i push the memory over 1400
okay i did a few things and TF2 and GSB have been very stable. Perfect actually.
- Intalled 9.12
- installed 9.12 hot fix
- used the stock speeds to set a 2d profile
- lowered ram overclock to 1150
Gonna try l4d2 tonight. this seemed to be the worst. I'm gonna call some zombie swarms in and cut them up with the katana to make a good mass.

As far as I can tell 9.12 hotfix fixes the primary 5770 to its stock 3d clocks all the time. It still artifacts as normal as the second card does its normal thing.
Fixed it with my own profile but the first card still seems locked at 850/1200 (even if I overclock and change the profile settings) so there must be something going on.
got the same problems with those stripes, have my gpu stock and amd oc'ed.
It only happened twice, the first was when i overclocked the card to 900/1200 playing dirt 2, and then i changed it to stock again.
The next was this evening while playing CS Source could you believe that lol!
Tomorrow i'm going to flash with the new ati bios, to see if it solves the problem!
