I dont think Gigabyte stated it was LOTES only, I think closest they have stated is "due the issues with the current foxconn sockets, we have changed it", and they have, not fully away from foxconn, but changed it.

LOTES produce only bracket but no plastic socket with pins.This thing confuse some people.
I contacted Lotes last month and they can only retail sell 100pcs and above.
This price I get from them (1 set):

This picture shows pre-production model and it is not Lotes bracket anyway. In retail version of Maximus III both socket and bracket and typical Foxconn ones and the ram-slot closest to the socket is black :up:

It could be uneven pressure on the chip itself, which the bracket change could improve. A quick test or two would tell you the difference...

After having stasio confirm this, I didn't think additional confirmation was needed...but in case anyone was wondering, both my P55A-UD3R and P55A-UD6 confim the findings here, LOTES bracket, Foxconn socket.

However, no problems with socket burn yet :up:

I also found Foxconn socket but LOTES bracket in my P55A-UD6, UD4P and UD3P. And i notice the part/model number is difference compare to non "A" socket. So, i think this is the revise socket already from Foxconn

Those link said clearly, Lotes not make the LGA1156 socket, only ILM backplate. Foxconn, Molex and Tyco is the manufacturer of socket LGA1156. So, there's no Lotes LGA1156 socket after all.

I agree 100%. Also, one brand isn't really better here. It's a design flaw... Check your board, I guarantee you have foxconn components on it somewhere. :D So the make isn't so much the problem IMHO.

That's why the people benchin LN2 with super weight on the sockets and high volts were the only ones having this issue. A little more pressure on one area and the pins fail to contact the other side well enough. Like a perfect storm me thinks.

i ran P55 for 5 monthes LN2 test, never has one board casue socket burn
i try to duplicate the socket burn then find the answer, but
just even i wprime 5GHz-5.2GHz, and vantage liket that, my CPU
and socket is nothing happen with P55-UD4/5/6

the other reason, think it about this.
the pin of 1156 is very crowded, if you do compare with S775 and S1366
so do you guys think and look every case the Pin doesn't touch the center of
pan could casue the socket burn?

i can also confirm what hicookie is saying

i have tested P55 boards from super early samples > 0.1 revisions to pre-retail release & retail boards in full giga range all Foxconn all tortured big time and no issue at all

i also tested MSI P55 board with foxconn socket big volts wprime the lot ... nothing........i killed the MSI board but thats another story lol...socket is intact heh

What is high voltage? :)
I had the problem with mine (no35 P55?), the BIOS, if I went to 1.6v it was 1.7v... from 1.6 to 1.7v, nothing worked, it just set it 0.1v higher...
Anyhow, also ran high vcore on early sample, but only for short time, unlike the LN2 drinking cookie :)

EDIT: I still drink more liters of beer then LN2 a year :)

high voltage on these boards is very tricky >> past 1.6
sometimes you have to clear cmos and :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:foot around booting up from lower to higher gradually to get it to stick and getting perfect VTT and temp on gigabyte was very important for example...................for MSI similar behaviour but VTT could be left at 1.37 for example it didnt matter what else i tried
