Most of Propus cores clocks lower than Deneb based. I did find no one Propus X4 whose can be LinX stable @3.7 or even at 3.8 GHz. Most of them clocks stable @3.6 GHz just like this sample.

Cacheless core has lower performance transistors, slightly different tuned process than core with L3 cache.

I bet those propus are manufactured in a similar fashion to the older deneb cores then. I have a 940 (2008 week 50) that behaves exactly like the deneb shown in this thread regarding voltage requirements and power draw, and a 920 (2008 week 49) that requires even more voltage for those same clocks. Power draw is suprisingly low though (1.5vcore for 3.5 on the 920 results in 135W draw, the 940 needs 1.46V for 3.6 and draws 141W)

I have a new 965 (2009 week 35) that will prime away at 3.8 on stock volts (1.41V), yet it sucks down 201W doing that. Kind of scary on the GD70's 4 phase PWM. I guess the new "high performance" transistors really wouldn't work well on those athlons, which are aimed more at running cool and sipping power than overclocking.

I am no longer concerned with the MSI gd 70's PWM after running prime on TWKR ( AKA LEKR ) at 4.2, I think they might have just had a bad batch of fets. You really don't want to know what the killawatt was saying I was pulling ;)

That's good to hear, I don't want to wake up to a roasted chip and board tomorrow morning. ;)

@haylui : My X3 720 is stable @3500 with vcore @ 1.49 but it is a little scary voltage so i prefer @3200 with 1.36 , i think it is safer that way ( i am willing to keep the cpu for at least 5 year )

Yes it is safe, relatively. ;) Default vcore for 45nm SOI DSL is 1.25-1.4V. If you overvolt that by 10% it is safe. +10% of 1.4 V is 1.54V. If you can handle heat of that overclocked and overvolted CPU, that isn't problem.

AMD SOI DSL has better resistance of electromigration than Intel's 45nm HKMG. If you overvolt Intel Yorkfield to 1.5V and hold that vcore for months, your CPU will be degraded.

You can go with 1.49V easilly with good aircooling. I think that your CPU can go over 3.6 GHz stable with good air cooling and 1.49V, if your mobo is good enough.

Ok, so when I set up the ACC, i have it set to auto and get no L3. from what i'm hearing on overclock.net, if your stepping is xxCxx, then you have a Deneb core, and if it's xxDxx it's a propus. mine is CACYC, so according to that i'm good.

do i need to manually set up L3? or even maybe turn EC on?

ooh, found it, i have to set my ACC to Hybrid (Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P) [source]. Doing that tonight.
