Yes. NVNews has got something similar.

Anything from TheInq or its derivatives (BSN, FUD, SemiAcc...), should go there.
Why? because 80% of what they post is BS.
Day 1: "The sky is red"
Day 2: "The sky is green"
...
Day 5: "The sky is blue"
...
One year later: "the sky has been confirmed to be blue... as we already told you (link to day 5)"
... poll speaks for itself.
Xtreme Rumour Mill sounds strange .... "Xtreme Speculation"? also, I think it's best if this is a subsection to the Xtreme News section.
I am perfectly okay with a separate rumors/news thread.
The only problem is... what some people consider a rumor others may consider news.
Also, the news section will most likely become a press release vault since thats basically the only thing that wouldnt be considered a rumor since its a valid source(the manufacturer).
except thats a crap site run by a moron.
mmm...what's the difference between options #2 and #3??
anyway I already foresee that 90% of the first replies in news topics will be:
"this should be posted in the rumors section!!!"
Yep, I wouldn't mind one.
There is only one problem, though... Mods would have to move topics all the time. Hard to say if it's a rumour or not sometimes.
Well I'd simply go by if the info comes straight from the manufacturer himself (then news) or if it comes from a random site (ofc fud, inq but also VR-Zone, Xbitlabs etc) before the official release for example, even if it's true I'd still place it in the rumor section. Many of the news posted in rumor section would probably turn to be true but that's the way to go IMO, not to try and valuate the reliability of the source, then we got a problem.
It's the before-release-speculation threads that are the biggest problem as of today and separating them like this would clean up the news section so much more. Especially these 6 month+ ahead speculation threads should definitely not be in the News section as we all know no matter the source, things can change a lot in a half year. :D
staggering amount of yes votes. Great idea for the noobs and fantwats.
The only way for this to work well and not continue being a pain for the mods is to only allow the mods and reps to post in the news section, and then allow anyone to post in rumor mill.
I think it is a good idea, but your still not going to have flame-wars and fanboys. Your simply just moving it to a different section.
Voted yes. Great idea.
Voted yes.... its a wonderful idea. The news section is a mess nowadays
Well I would say your opinion is biased since you work for INQ...
And no a forum is not a democracy. It has an owner and admins who set the rules. If they wanted to they could say "No more links to any INQ story EVER" if they wanted to and its perfectly within their rights...
Yeaah, way too much "spam" :)
Good idea!
I propose another idea...
How about Requiring tags around the title?
[Fud] or [Spec] (for Speculation)
I would like to read about Rumors, since thats the fun of Rumors.
Or just put it in the rumor mill sections. All site like FUD do is make crap up and act like they are some high up website that knows everything and then all the people here that think o if it is on the web it must be true post it here. It is getting annoying to see 10000000000000 thread on what FUD or whoever said.
WHy cant people get it in their minds that FUD and others like them are junk?
I voted yes, but it would mean much more work by the mods and will cause issues.
For instance, would news about the Fermi demo with the faked card go under rumor? Who defines what is real news and what is rumor?
I have a feeling that going by strict journalistic guidelines about 75% of the "news" articles posted on the web would fall under rumor/bias.
I vote that any reviewer or journalist that uses a violent term is biased and should not be posted as news (IE product A destroys, rapes kills, slaughters, crushes, annihilates product B is not news and just a piece of PR fluff)
EDIT: Poll should be fixed though. No and "I think its good the way it is" are the same thing, and splitting them is a yes BIASed poll. :p FYI
TPU has done a nice job by having set people in charge of posting the news, being careful to skirt the rumor sites and such. I imagine this would help stem the tide of offtopic and such in the news section. People may not have the opportunity to post everything they might like, but it would keep things more tame at any rate.
voted NO
rumour mill is jus rubbish mill
on sites that have it, i don't even bother to read it cause i know it's likely to be 100% crap
cause other sites have it, we should follow?
why create one, if it's jus to link rubbish from a known bs site?
think a newspaper or cnn doesn't propagate bs
eg. amd 6990 spotted, true dual gpu design!!! posted today
does that really need a section for itself? or couldn't the op put it in ati forum?
it's highly likely to be rubbish, people jus need to be able to differentiate
i agree with xveinx
most of the time the poster knows an alternative forum to post rumors in
the example clarifies that in above post
we still need to organise proper guidelines to use the news forum, else the same bs will happen with the rumours section
so you can jus organise the guidelines and minus the rumours section
Voted yes, and I agree with the point that unless it is from a 100% credible source, it should be put into the rumour mill. None of that "we heard from our sources some time ago who were at a conference with unknown sources from ati/nvidia that something is due to be released some time in the next hundred years."
Whether the rumour is true or not is irrelevant, it is still considered a rumour unless it is from a 100% credible source such as the manufacturer.
