In regards for propus the only issue I see right now for AMD, and its why I am waiting on a new build, is because they really need prices to come down at the top in order to be competitive with the core i5. And AMD also has a Athlon II X4 640 propus at 3.0Ghz planned it seems AMD is going to be squeezed with prices with all their cpu's they have out. The X4 640 is going to be getting really close to the price of the X4 945 I would imagine, based on the price difference on the X4 620 and the X4 630 I would expect the X4 640 to be around $145. So that seems to be an issue because the Phenom II prices are going to have to come down as well because of i5. It just seems like AMD is going to have to really lower the Athlon II X4 prices way down or they are going to get squeezed out because of prices. Because the Phenom II prices have to come down. the core i5 quad beats the X4 965 at times and is $50 cheaper. So prices are going to have to do something I would imagine.

First I thought the Athlon X4 cooler was the same as Athlon X2 and x3 710,
but that's not the case.Very similar,except the bottom is square unlike
the x2/x3 which is round.
Have not actually used any of the stock coolers,but can tell you that the A2 X4 is running ~20c
lower then X4 955;using the same Asetek Low Cost Liquid Cooling (LCLC).Assuming the temps readings are correct,as

Mine has no "hidden" L3 (Propus),so perhaps the cooler is different on the
Deneb based A2 X4.

Without OC the i5 don't beat either 965 or 955(or 945 with luck). With OC it depends on the program. In the real life ones it's difficult to see a diference.

And in games, just buy a better gpu.

to end the life of the 945 wouldn't make sense because it should outperform the 640 by a decent amount. i think almost everyone that has an i5 is going to do the turbo boost to oc it. and its like $50 cheaper. So amd will need to do some price cuts, but i guess it also depends on how well the i5 sells. if people are buying the i5 and it isn't making an effect on amd's cpu's in the same price range then it won't matter. but i think i5 is going to sell well. intel always sells well. amd needs to be smart and strategic about there lineup and also not flood the market with to many cpu's. I think they know this to an extent because the rumor is that when the Athlon II 255 comes out it will possibly mean the end of the 250 and it sounds pretty for certain when the X2 555 comes out that amd will end of life the X2 550. So i think amd is trying not to flood to many different cpu's out there but they still have to be smart, especially in the quad market with the Athlon II and Phenom II's getting fairly close in price.

For the Phenom II's AMD is only going to keep one Black Edition at the top of each tier (X2, X3, X4). So if a X2 555 comes out then the 550 may be replaced with a locked multiplier version just like we see with the 720 and the 955. The 945 isn't going away either there's a new one coming out with the new stepping. Since the 250 isn't unlocked there is no reason it has to disappear with a 255 but we'll have to wait and see.
