I got sick of WoW because they catered to the whiners on the forums about "Nerf class X" or "Buff class Y" and they really screwed up the balance. It used to be, you could specialize your character to kill a certain class, and it made you weak to another class. With all the forum whining, you couldn't depend on your class to be playable a certain way from one week to the next. They continually made huge, sweeping, fundamental changes to classes and builds that made you have to re-learn your own character. Now it has all gotten diluted to a point of entropy.
I am always trying new MMOs even if they look like WoW, because I really enjoyed WoW, and hope they can at least get close, without screwing with balance too much. Warhammer was great, but the community just wasn't there. I am hoping Aion can do better.
QFT!
and changing the raids to 25 was fine... but 10man pretty much broke the necessity of belonging to a guild...
back in MC days... EVERYONE had to work hard to belong to a good guild... no whiners, no emo... well, not too much... and it somehow held the folks together better... now, with 10 man raid option... folks just throw a sissy fit and walk out, get 10 of their chums and sign up a new guild...
there's no sense of working together to overcome obstacles anymore...
Indeed, 10-man should not even be called a raid, I still remember when Stratholme was a 10-man (yeah, you COULD toss 40 people in there, but it was meant for 10). I don't want more Stratholme instances, I want more BWLs !
Okay, so the pronunciation to this game is...
A-on.
Eye-On.
Ee-On.
Which is correct? I call it A-On, however the intro to the Beta sings something like Eye-On.
Couldn't they call it something simple like Warcraft, where theres no possibility of mispronunciation?
Yeah this game looks pretty good, I picked up the beta package and looking forward to checking this one out. Tho I am not excited about getting into another MMORPG again.
Will grinding be heavy duty or more compared to WoW ?
I played a 'lock in the early days, and agree, they needed fixes.
The Paladins not competing with DPS of DPS classes, or heals of Healing classes though ? When you pick a hybrid class, do you really expect to do as good at another classes specialty ? I never understood why paladins complained that they couldn't do the same DPS as rogues, or tank as well as warriors, or heal as well as priests... yet they had the capability of doing ALL THREE to a limited degree. I would like to see how good you do as a rogue healer, or a priest tank. If you choose a hybrid class, you should expect to be able to perform all of those duties, but not to be as good as a class that specializes in it. You have options, they do not. They deserve a huge benefit at their roles.
My issue was all the whiners saying crap like "I am a mage who specializes in fire and when I get attacked by an assassin rogue I don't have a chance !" Well, duh ! When a class specializes at killing one or two classes, they should be able to do it with a high percentage of success, because they did it at the expense of being weak at fighting other classes. Don't nerf that specialized class, or buff the victim against that specialization.
class changes were needed and fine.. i rolled a warr and stayed a warr... loved it...
now we have to AoE tank like pallys... fine... i got used to it...
but my biggest complaint was WoTLK... BC was fine... Kara 10man was fine... got folks a taste of raids... but WoTLK 10man raid everything was just dumb...
there's no sense of community any more...
there's no sense of having to learn to work as a team any more...
there's just so many guilds with dumb... and at times funny names...
it was a better game when people were "forced" to rely on each other.. on different classes...
i do miss the game.. i miss my friends.. community... there is none any more...
you guys makes me want to log into my character again... i miss my ape... yea, he was BigApe in silvermoon us...
Is it possible to get into the beta for this game? Or at least check it out for a few hours?
Supposedly there will be an open beta soon. So you can try it out then.
Looks interesting but i'm holding out for FFXIV.
One word: theme park
I beta tested Aion and after a few weeks I just quit. The developers are trying desperately to hide a lack of game, behind all the flashy graphics. Terrible game, no challenge and nothing to character build.
Fun to play for about 3~4 weeks, just to explore. But the game has no sustainability and is like going to a themepark... there great to visit once a year... nothing more.
Still trying to figure a few things out, but so far the game is pretty good. Basic stuff like game lag I have almost none here on the west coast. Its a very polished game for a Beta, I have very little complaints.
The game is very nice looking, loads very quick and has prolly the best character creation I have seen yet. Characters actually look like the one you created ingame LOL. There are so many different ways to create your character I highly doubt you will see another ingame that looks 100% like yours.
The UI is pretty good, but hopefully there will be some addons so you can change things are a bit to suit your liking, not sure if addons will be allowed, in some ways I hope not.
There is still a great deal I have to learn about the game, like raids and instances if there is any. I have yet to group with anyone or even seen if there is any crafting. Stuff I look forward to checking out tho.
I happen to see one thing that was a turn off, that was a player sitting in a chair and turned into a merchant. I dont like that as it turns many meeting places into huge player merchant zones. Its to hard to find anything your looking for and compare prices. Plus it forces you to stay logged into the game while you might need your computer for something else.
I like the fact that I can login for a short bit and do something and not be forced into a long drawn out game session. Maybe at higher levels grinding exp might become much more noticable but so far its been under control.
All in all tho I like the game a great deal.
Looks rather intriguing simply due to it's graphics. The open beta is supposedly right around the corner as the closed beta ends today.
It looks like in US release date will be Sept 25th ?
So is there any info on what builds will look like ?
What I mean is there anything other than just buying spell books ? Is there and talent tree like setup, or other ways to build your characters.
I did not get outside of the beginners area, I assume that when you reach a certian level you can leave this area and head out to the bigger world.
Level 10 seems to be where you can pick certian classes that expand from the basic types we start at. Is there where we can decided things like a talent tree gives us ?
Thanks for any help.
I played up to level 9 and liked the game very much.
Did any of you guys pick up the Beta pack at Best Buy. When I look at my package it has two bar codes on it, one is for the regular version and one for teh collecters version. At the cash register I picked the collecters version.
I also thought that this will be a download only game and no box ?
If that is so how do they know I picked the collecters version as it only had one code ?
Thanks Zal
I found some info on Stigmas
http://www.aionsource.com/forum/gene...ma-system.html
All in all that seems some what limiting as I am sure there will be a certian number of Stigmas that everyone will want. Unless there is a huge number of possible Stigmas to create many different build possibilities.
Plus not being able to use them until level 20 is a drag.
So basicly every class is the same until level 20....
Not sure if I like that
