I would wait for the new chipset motherboards to show up and Super Micro is your best and most reliable option when it comes to AMD Motherboard Solutions for servers and work stations.

The existing Nvidia MCP55 Chipset Motherboard offerings from Super Micro are able to run SLI so the answer would be yes. That is the board that I would buy if I needed to buy one now.

Remember, this is all new stuff so you will see a slow gathering of steam while they roll out the new stuff and I imagine they want to make sure the boards are good for the 6 socket chips..
As Brother Esau said above this board will handle the 6 core cpu's and is SLI capable..

The nVidia chipsets even as old as the 3600 did SLI, but that doesn't really say much as to if AMD plans to keep Crossfire capability in RD800S/RS800/code-name-of-the-week from the desktop version it is related to.

AMD will not allow for vanity sakes SLI on Server/Workstation Motherboards and not CROSSFIRE it just seems improbable that they would permit that.

But if the chipset allows it (as the 790FX actually does...) it's all up for the manufacturer, and I can't see how AMD would have an issue with that.

Also GPGPU is the new thing, even for certain server/workstation apps so the chances of a Dual-Socket Crossfire Motherboard seems very likely to me with the next generation of chipsets.

Manufacturers can only build to spec set forth from AMD not the other way around.

I don't think that's what he's saying. Even if available from the chipset, a board maker may choose not to support it unless it is a minimum requirement feature for that chipset.

G34 is for 4 socket, and it has lower end 2 socket boards. I cant remember the name of the other socket coming out that is for 1 socket server, and has higher end dual socket boards. The 2 new sockets overlap in the 2S area because thats where the most sales are from.

Technically, does the board manufacturer need to officially support crossfire? If the chipset allows for it, and you install the drivers for it then it *should* work. right? I thought the cards communicate through the crossfire bridges on the cards themselves...

OH man the fact these things are not $1,500 made me actually pause for half a second and ponder building a system out of two of them lol. Good thing my mizer side is stronger than my nerd side...for now...while I have a few months left of paying off the last student loan (which is my only remaining debt). haha

I'm really not all that sure. I don't want to spend a fortune on a temp board, and I'd really like to wait until these CPUs are about $400 each instead. That may only take a couple of weeks.

I haven't decided either way, however.
