Did not really try and push it. It ran 1 hour of OOCP and it passed then I took it down to 2.2 and that is where it remains.

While I was interested in how it will OC the main point of this is not OC. It is crunching with as little electric and heat yet still some decent WU output. Right now I am installing Ubuntu to a USB-stick so I can run without CDROM or HD. Also down to 1 meg as it was only using 500 megs with desktop and crunching.

So I will probably not mess with OCing until fall when weather cools. Right now I want as many cores running without alot of heat for the AC to have to deal with.

Don't panic too much about the V/Amps readings they are higher than the Amps scale as they show power from the socket including the pcf. Mine is typically 5% up.

My head is starting to swim with all these numbers and various hardware and OS setups. May not have enough brain cells to match my ambition.:rolleyes:

What I am learning is Linux seems to draw less power and a Antec Earthwatts 380 draws less than a PC P& C 470 that is not 80+.

I do feel I am headed toward what I wanted and that is a low power, low heat quad setup. On the Earthwatts with 1 x1 gig ram, 250 gig HD and no CDROM under 100% load with WCG it is drawing 117 watts and .97 - .99 amps. My dual-core 5200+ uses 130 watts and 1.76 - 1.8 amps full load. This is a cheap quad setup. :up:

As far as output it will need to run I think 14 days non-stop to get a real idea. We kinda guess with less but I will be messing around with it alot trying to get the USB to work. But I did order another one so I will leave it alone and let it work.:D

Come winter I'll crank up the gigglehurtz! :ROTF:

Some numbers I find very interesting.

PH2 810 .39 kw/h @ 90 minutes = .259 kw/h for 1 hour
9850 .44 kw/h @ 131 minutes = .20 kw/h for 1 hour
1354 Opty .34 kw/h @ 180 minutes = .11 kw/h for 1 hour

The Killawatt keeps track of the time and kw/h. I take the kw/h / time * 60 minutes

Am I misunderstanding something? These numbers make the Opty look very cheap electricity wise.

no obviously it doesnt use that much. but folding with a gtx260 isnt actually cheap. guess it should be about 120watts

Yeah was getting tired there. Really need to pull the 260 and just run WCG for an hour or 2.

Could you possibly try taking it up to 245 htt and just run occt at that? I'm just trying to figure out if there is an htt wall because I'd like to setup a computer for crunching, last computer I had dedicated to it the fan on the cpu died while I was off at school and now I'm just waiting for room to set the computer back up.

I have Ubuntu installed on it now but have another OPty on the road. Will try it on the DKA790GX if I can find a hd to put win7 on. If I get Ubuntu to boot off the USB stick then I'll have one as I will if the Biostar will recognize the Opty.

I hope you didn't setup your USB stick new. There was sometime back a thread on WCG: (https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.or...d?thread=23044) where Cadence provided a solution (for 64bit machines. Have you checked that out?
If Ubuntu doesn't work maybe you find help on that project's forum.

Can anyone recommend a decent heatsink for a quad-core opty that is cheap. Looking thru Newegg it looks like I gotta spend $30-35. The stock one that comes with a 9850 works great. The one that came with my 810 I fear is not up to it though.

IF you read the instructions this is a nice and relatively easy install and setup. Runs very well, easy to add software and Boinc starts automatically so you can run it headless without keyboard or mouse. I am using a hard drive as I want to experiment with a few things. Next week I will try the USB memory stick install.

So far looks like 15-16 WUs a day average. Comparable to my 9850 main PC which is busy with more than crunching.

This is using VNC from my Vista desktop.

Running stock. It does put out some heat. I guess with 4 cores that is kinda "doh" but the capacitors next to the CPU were way too hot to touch. I have a house fan blowing on it and the heatsink is keeping CPU at nice temps. The heatsink blows pretty hot air right on the capacitors and mosfets. If it was in a case I might never have noticed but I have it sitting on a board on a shelve.

But I will wait till the AC is shut off before I OC it. 2.5gz seems to be an easy OC for it and this winter I will probably do that.

This was a nice purchase. I like the Gigavyte board and Earthwatts PSU. If ya do not have an extra heatsink then the CPU is not such a great deal but still an OK buy.

That Panflo really pushes the air. I dunno what RPM but ya only stick your finger in there once. You'll be more careful from then on. :rolleyes:

Will try booting and running off USB Memory stck on DKA.

I took the 1354 to 2.4gz. 2.2 seems a bit anemic and a 200mz ain't all that much more heat. At least that is what I am telling myself.

This may give ya an idea how it is doing. So far 17 one day 18 the next. WUs have not been too big yet. Next 1354 due in Wednesday.

I compared your HCC results to 2 stock Q6600 since HCC WUs are all pretty similar (no big runtime differences) and it looks like this opteron@2.4Ghz is exactly as fast as a Q6600@2.4Ghz which is a great result for AMD on WCG!!

EDIT: there could be a difference: I'm comparing the intel cpu on vista and the amd cpu on linux...
